BAILY: Mervyn Henry Baily, beloved husband, father, grandfather, great -grandfather, and great-great -grandfather, passed away September 6, 2015 at Delwynda Court Personal Care Home, Deloraine, MB at the age of 93 years. A celebration of Mervyns life was held on September 10th, 2015 at G.R. Carscadden Funeral Chapel, Virden, MB with interment at Ancrum Cemetery in the Bradwardine district. Mervyn Henry Baily was born in the log house on SE ? of 12-12-23 in the Bradwardine district on June 16, 1922 to Albert and Alice Baily He was raised along with his siblings Geordie and Eleanor. He attended school at Harding and was known by many as Spud. On January 8, 1942 Mervyn married Hazel Anderson of the Shiloh district and they began their life together on the old Shuttleworth farm on the south half of 6-16-22. In the fall of 1949, they moved to the home farm following his fathers death. They raised three children: Marlene, Don and Larry. Farming was Mervyn & Hazels life and livelihood. Mervyn loved farm life and was proud, as is his family that their farm attained Century Farm status in 1981. Mervyn travelled out to the farm to help Don and Janice when he was needed, and loved to get on the swather or the combine. Life was not all hard work. Mervyn loved music, and played the violin in an orchestra in the early years and then later for his own enjoyment. He also played the organ and the piano. Mervyn and his cousin Les enjoyed their days of violin playing together. They enjoyed attending the local dances in the Bradwardine and surrounding area. Mervyn and Hazel both loved to curl. They had many wonderful curling memories. He continued to curl up until he was in his 80s. He also was the caretaker at the Bradwardine rink for one winter. He enjoyed ski-dooing with his boys, hunting, fishing and golfing and camping. He also drove the school van for a number of years. Mervyn and Hazel retired from the farm and moved to Virden in 1991 where they enjoyed the community and good friends. Both were members of the Canadian Order of Forrester and Mervyn was a member of the Virden Lions Club. They were members of the Good Sam Travelling Club enjoying camping around Manitoba and the western provinces. They enjoyed many evenings of potluck suppers and cards with their neighbours and friends when they lived in Virden. Due to declining health Mervyn & Hazel moved to the Delwynda Court Personal Care home in Deloraine in June of 2014. He enjoyed the many outings that they took in the handi-van looking at the crops and visiting the other small towns in that area. Mervyn was predeceased by his parents, Albert & Alice Baily, his brother Geordie (Mardie) Baily, his brother-in-law Elvin Thompson, his in-laws, William & Catherine Anderson, Minnie & Wray Darragh, and their daughters Karna & Penny, Eva and Bill Duguid, and their son Donald Beleski, Doug & Hazel Anderson and Mary Anderson. Mervyn is survived by his wife of 73 years, Hazel; his daughter Marlene(Kay) Oslie, his sons, Don Baily (Janice Hunt), Larry (Deb) Baily; his grand- children: Alan(Shelley)Oslie, Braden Baily, Dylan Baily, Tracy(Dale) Mead, Nicole Downing, Brad (Dina) Downing his great grand- children: Josh(Tanya) Oslie, Sarah Oslie, Dillon & Brock Mead, Shayna, Brianna, Brandy and Josh Downing, Dawson and Hannah Downing his great great grandson, Nathaniel Oslie; his sister, Eleanor Thompson, her sons Brian (Shelley) Thompson, and Wayne (Karin) Thompson, Owen and Carlie Thompson, Judy and Larry Borserio, and many nieces and nephews. The Legion Ladies Auxiliary provided a wonderful lunch following the service. To those who sent floral tributes and cards, phone calls, visits and food our thanks. Last but not least to the entire staff at Delwynda Court PCH in Deloraine or the care given to Mervyn and the thoughtfulness shown to Hazel and the children during this difficult time.
