HAYDEN: On October 25, 2015, Edith May Hayden (nee Moir), age 91 years, passed away peacefully at her residence, Valleyview Care Centre, Brandon. Born May 10, 1924 in Hartney, Manitoba, Edith was the first daughter of George and Lillian Moir. She attended school in Hartney, worked part time at Hill's Store and was a Girl Guide Leader. In 1946, she met Paul Hayden, who was stationed with the Air Force in Souris, at a dance. They married April 16, 1946 and moved to Brandon where their children were born: Van in 1946, Terry in 1948, Raymond "Red" 1952, and Marilyn 1954. The East End is where they lived their entire marriage and both Edith and Paul volunteered at the East End Community Centre. Edith worked at Brandon Chrysler Dodge, Custom Furniture and Marine, and played the organ at First Church of Christ for over 20 years. Music was Edith's passion; being gifted at piano, organ, voice, and conducting choir. She was Grand Pianist and lifelong member of the UCT. Edith conducted the Prairie Oasis Choir and spent many hours setting up concerts at Personal Care Homes, churches, senior centres and fairs. Her talents were enjoyed through her involvement with St. Mary's Anglican Church as organist, choir member and Ladies Auxiliary. A season ticket holder of the Winnipeg Symphony Concert series held in Brandon, she and her friend Beth Scott never missed a concert. Enjoying all types of music, Edith attended concerts at WMCA and the Lorne Watson Recital Hall. Volunteering with The Brandon Festival of the Arts, she also entered senior voice competitions. Edith just loved to sing, and was very good at it. Her voice will be missed. Edith is survived by her four children: Van (Sandra) of Winnipeg, Terry of Vancouver, BC, Red (Kathy) of Brandon, and Marilyn of Brandon; grandchildren Travis, Paula (Andrew), Pam (Kevin), David (Brenda), Kari, Mike (Michelle), Amy (Dave), Caitlin; great-grandchildren Cody, Samuel, Michaela, Skylar and Hayden. She also leaves her sister Ruth Mansoff of Calgary, AB, and sister-in-law Evelyn Moir of Victoria, BC. Edith was predeceased by her husband Paul in 2010, parents George and Lillian Moir, siblings Art (Dora), Cyril (Kaye), Harvey, Fran (Bill) Shea and brother- in-law Ed Mansoff. The family would like to thank the staff at Valleyview Care Centre for their care of Mom, and to Gaylene from Caring Companions who was Mom's Best Friend. A Celebration of Life Service will be held at St. Mary's Anglican Church, 401-1st Street on Wednesday, November 4, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. Fr Sean Beahan will officiate with Rev John Dolloff and Canon Joy Ruddock assisting. Edith's eldest son Van will place her urn at her final resting place at Rosewood Memorial Gardens.
