STASILA: In the early morning hours of Saturday, December 26, 2015, Frank Andrew Stasila, age 78 years, passed away in Palliative Care, Assiniboine Centre, Brandon. A community minded man, Frank was involved with the Rod & Gun Club, Grand Rapids, MB; Charter member of the Castlegar Selkirk Lions Club, Castlegar, BC; chairman of the Lions Club Trade Fairs in Castlegar and Nipawin, SK. He also was an Executive Officer with the Curling Clubs in Castlegar, BC and Nipawin, SK. One of his memorable moments was being Santa for the patients at the Castlegar and District Hospital. His favourite pastime was singing with the Barber shoppers, choruses, stage productions and church choirs. As an artist, his art works toured with the Arts West Westman Juried Art Show and Travelling Gallery in Manitoba. Other activities that gave him much pleasure were curling, golfing, fishing, dancing and walking his dogs. A moment to be remembered was when Frank saved a drowning 12 year old boy who fell off the ferry into the Columbia River near Robson, BC. Frank worked on Hydro Electric projects and gained many friends in the communities in BC, SK, and northern Manitoba. Frank's daughters thought of him as a very kind and loving gentle father willing to do many good things for them like teaching them to swim, fish and garden. He was their hero, best friend who sang to them in hard times and laughed with them in good times. He encouraged his family to follow their dreams, power through adversity, always do their best and be proud of who they are. Frank will be lovingly remembered by his wife of over 54 years, Sophie Ann; his loving daughters Leanne (Tom) Johnston, grandchildren Dominique and Benjamin of Calgary; Shelly of Brandon, along with aunts, uncles, cousins and wonderful friends. He was predeceased by his parents, Andrew and Mary; brother John and wife Velma; brother Stanley and wife Josephine, and nephew Robert. Family and friends are invited to a time of visitation at Memories Chapel, 330 18th Street North, on Wednesday, December 30, 2015 between 7:00 p.m. and 8:00 p.m. The Funeral Service will take place at Memories Chapel on Thursday, December 31, 2015 at 10:30 a.m. with Rev. Fr. Michael Raj Savarimuthu, of St. Augustine's Roman Catholic Church, officiating. Frank will be laid to rest in a private ceremony at Hamiota Cemetery.
