KOVERSKY: Peter Steve Koversky passed away peacefully at the Boissevain Hospital on Wednesday, December 16, 2015 after a lengthy battle with lung cancer. Pete would have celebrated his 88th birthday on February 25, 2016. To many, he was known as “Pete the telephone man” who drives the little red truck. It didn’t matter who you were or whether he knew you or not, he always greeted everyone with a friendly smile, a nod of his head or a wave of his hand. Pete was born in Rackham, MB to Karol Kawerski (Koversky) and Uzuna (Josephine) Pauley who immigrated from Poland and the Ukraine. His family consisted of five brothers and two sisters. Pete spent most of his childhood working on the family farm just outside of Sandy Lake. He then joined the Manitoba Telephone System in 1949 where he worked as a telephone installer. He moved to Deloraine where he met his wife Dorothy Maxwell (deceased). He retired from the Manitoba Telephone System in 1987 after 38 years of service. He was proud to serve the citizens of Boissevain and surrounding area where he made many friends and enjoyed countless conversations. Pete was a social person and a proud, hard-working man, with a great sense of humour. He would often have his family in tears laughing at his tales, quirky sayings, and expressions. In his younger years, he enjoyed community dances, camping, fishing, gardening and tending to his flower gardens. He enjoyed many family get togethers where he and Dorothy prepared large meals followed by a good game of cards. He loved being a part of the Boissevain community where he attended various community events such as the Boissevain Turtle Derby, summer fairs, Co-op dividend days, farmers market, auction sales, watching the Centennials play ball, and cleaning the Kinsmen Park. He enjoyed getting out of town to family reunions at Sandy Lake, various community Fall suppers, Killarney and Deloraine harness races, and the Metis Festival. He was frequently seen at his favorites restaurants, the Redcoat Inn, Busy B, Boissevain Bakery, Chicken Chef in Killarney and the Rendezvous in Deloraine. Pete is survived by four daughters, Brenda MacDonald, Barb Morgan (Doug), Marlene McFadzean (Greg) and Michelle McFadzean (Darin), 10 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild. He is also survived by his brother, Mervin Koversky (Shirley) and various nieces and nephews. Pete was predeceased by his parents, Karol & Jessie, his brothers Walter, Tony, John, Frank and sisters Rose and Anne. A service was held on Saturday, December 19, 2015 at the Boissevain Cemetery officiated by Father Shane Bengry and Father Sean Beahen. His grandson, Jesse and granddaughters, Zoe and Nevada, read the Eulogy followed by two songs, Amazing Grace and Peace in the Valley. A tea was held at the United Church after the service. Donations in memory of Pete can be made to the Boissevain Lions Club (Fishing Derby), Box 847, Boissevain, MB, R0K 0E0, one of his favorite events.“If others wonder why he’s missing…..just tell them he’s gone fishing.”
