MYERS: Robert (Bob) Fraser Macintosh Myers, FRCP, passed away peacefully on Thursday, February 4, 2016, at the age of 98 years. Bob was born in North Battleford, Saskatchewan, on December 16, 1919 and grew up in Brandon, Manitoba. After graduating from Brandon Collegiate, Bob furthered his studies at the University of Manitoba, graduating from the Faculty of Medicine in 1941. He married Joann Elliott and, like many of his generation, spent four years overseas in World War II. He was a captain in the medical corps. Upon returning, Bob practiced medicine in Brandon, obtaining his paediatric specialty in 1959. Dad (Dr. Bob) was the first paediatrician in Manitoba outside of Winnipeg. He felt very strongly that Western Manitoba should be served by this speciality. Very service oriented, Bob served on a number of local, provincial and national community and professional organizations. He was a member of the Board of Governors of Winnipeg Childrens Hospital and a founder of the Brandon Clinic. In his spare time, Bob was interested in many activities, including golf, sailing and curling. The Clear Lake cottage was integral to Dads (Bampas) life and people frequently tracked him down there for his sound advice and his little black bag. Bampas main focus, however, was his family. He and Joann were married for 73 years and had four children, 14 grandchildren and 23 and counting great-grandchildren. He had a keen sense of humour that never deserted him, a sage wisdom, a prodigious memory, and a wide ranging knowledge - a true Renaissance man. Dad never suffered fools gladly and we all have our own special memories of him, including the grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Bob was predeceased by his beloved Joann (November 2014) and never really recovered from his loss. He is survived by his children Joan Foster, Thunder Bay, ON, Barbara (Barry) Olivella, Lunenburg, NS, Bill (Lana) Myers, Brandon, MB, and Elizabeth (Scott) Duncan, Medicine Hat, AB and extended family. He was the best. A Celebration of Bobs life will be held at Central United Church, 327-8th Street, on Saturday, February 13, 2016 at 1:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Brandon Regional Health Centre Foundation, 150 McTavish Avenue East, Brandon, Manitoba, R7A 2B3, or to a charity of choice.Messages of condolence may be placed at www.brockiedonovan.com.
