TEMPLETON: On Sunday, March 20, 2016, John Finley Templeton passed away peacefully at the Brandon Regional Health Centre. He is lovingly remembered by his wife of 60 years Betty; daughter Nancy Victoria (Steve Jolly); son Ken (Dana); grandchildren Jordanna (Izak) Montgomery, Taylor, Madison, David and John Armit and great grandchildren Cruz and Gage. John was predeceased by his brother Thomas and an infant daughter. John was born on May 4, 1932 in St. John, New Brunswick. He graduated from Saint John Vocational High School in 1949 and joined the Canadian Army. John was sent to Rivers, Manitoba at the age of 18 for paratrooper training and was then posted to Germany for two years. During this time he was attached to the Canadian Brigade. In 1955, John and Betty Nice were married in St. John. The next year, they welcomed Nancy Annette to the family and four years later, Kenneth Gordon John. In 1961, John was posted to Tanzania to design and build a telecommunications network for the Tanzanian Army. Upon his return to Canada, he was promoted to the rank of Warrant Officer and the family moved to Valcartier, Quebec in 1966. In 1970, John was promoted to Chief Warrant Officer and posted to Shilo, Manitoba. Always a multitasker, he simultaneously began to attend Brandon University and attained his Bachelor of Arts Degree in 1972. In 1973, John retired from a 25 year military career. His military highlights included receiving his jump wings, receiving the Canadian Forces Decoration in 1961 and a Bar in 1971. In 1973, John attained his Real Estate License and in 1974 started Templeton Realty Limited. He held a real estate brokers license for 22 years and during that time was elected to the Brandon Real Estate Board numerous times, serving one year as President. He also served on the Board of Directors of the Manitoba Real Estate Board, taught the real estate brokers act section of the real estate licensing course and wrote a weekly cover page article for the Brandon Sun Real Estate Guide. In 2005, John was honored by the Brandon Real Estate Board with an honorary lifetime membership. In 1977, he purchased White Swan Mobile Home Park and the same year built Highland Park Mobile Estates. In 1990, John retired and he and Betty began to venture South on a regular basis. Throughout their years together, they enjoyed playing bridge, curling and golf. John also enjoyed waterfowl hunting and gardening. A celebration of Johns life will be held on Thursday, March 24, 2016 at 1:00 p.m. at the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 3 in the Banquet Hall, 560 13th Street East, Brandon, with Mr. Mike Waddell officiating. Donations in memory of John may be made to the Royal Canadian Legion Number 3. The family would also like to thank the doctors and nurses of the Assiniboine Center for the time and care that they provided to John during their time with him.
