PENNER: Katherine (Tena) Penner. Mom was born on May 7, 1917 in the Russian Ukraine and died peacefully on January 22nd, 2016 at Valleyview Care Center in Brandon, MB. She was a devoted wife, mother and homemaker most of her adult life. One of the favourite slogans that she lived by was "If a job is worth doing, it's worth doing well." This was reflected in all her activities from gardening to sewing to Mennonite Central Committee volunteer work to the Ladies Aid and church related functions and on and on. Her faith was very strong and sustained her through good times and bad. She was predeceased by her beloved life partner Pete in 1989, by all of her siblings and by her son-in-law West Tolton. She is survived by her children Otto (Marlene), Helen (Barrie) Cochrane, Eric (Lee) and Louise (Louis) Andre as well as ten grandchildren and eight great grandchildren. She is also survived by sisters-in-law Nettie Sawatsky, Anne Schroeder, Beth Kathler, Iola Penner, by brother-in-law and sister-in-law Cornie and Thelma Penner and by many nieces and nephews. Sincere thanks from the family goes to the caring and compassionate staff at VCC for their endless patience and unfailing efforts to make Mom happy. Donations in memory of Mom may be sent to the MCC, 134 Plaza Drive, Winnipeg, MB. R3T 5K9 or a charity of choice. Flowers are gratefully declined by request. A celebration of Tena's life will be held on April 16th, 2016 at the Oak Lake Mennonite Church at 2:00p.m. A private family interment will precede the service. Carscaddens Funeral Home in Virden, MB are in charge of arrangements.
