WILSON: With his wife and family by his side, Lyall Falconer Wilson, formerly of Justice, Manitoba, passed away at his residence, Fairview Home, on Friday, April 8, 2016. Lyall was born on the family farm, August 15, 1929 to the late Samuel and Annie (Falconer) Wilson, the only son in a family of three. He took his schooling in Justice and was very involved in all activities. Lyall enjoyed taking part in plays and being at the skating rink. Once the curling rink was built, he also enjoyed curling and travelled by horse and sleigh to the rink for events. In his younger years, Lyall farmed with his father, until 1956, when he took over the farm. His cousin Ross Wilson was like a brother to him, and they worked closely together while farming. As young men, Lyall, Ross, Bill Hales and Alex McNeillie liked to take in all the fall suppers - perhaps because they all enjoyed good food or they were checking out the girls. Lyall met Barbara Hales at a dance in Rapid City in 1953. They married on July 16, 1955, and their son Neil arrived in January 1960. Lyall and Barbara had a mixed farming operation until 1963, but due to poor health, he took a position at Gulf Oil, and finally with I.C.G. gas company. As a Leak Survey Technician, during the summers he walked many miles across Manitoba and Ontario looking for pipeline leaks. When they decided to fly the lines he had his first airplane ride. Prior to retiring, Lyall took classes and earned his gas ticket. A member of the Justice United Church, Lyall served as a Sunday School Teacher, Superintendent and an elder. After moving to Brandon, he became a member of Southminster Church, as well as an elder. Both in Justice and at Southminster, Lyall enjoyed singing and was a member of the choir, adding to each hymn with his deep bass voice. While in Justice, Lyall was active in many community events and was a member of the Orange Lodge #1501. He joined the Odd Fellow Lodge Rapid City #18 and Brandon City Lodge #6, he also was a member of Deborah Rebekah Lodge #9 and Naomi Rebekah Lodge #6 until his passing. Lyall was honoured to serve as the Grand Master of the Grand Lodge of Manitoba I.O.O.F., in 1999-2000. Lyall is survived by his wife Barbara; son Neil (Joyce); grandchildren Kaleb Wilson, Vicki Gerry (Darcy) and Lanney and great-grandchildren Shayla, Leeanne, Angela, Johnathan, Kaiden and Avery. He is also survived by his sisters Doreen Martin (children Bob and Guy) of Winnipeg, and Bernice Cook (children Judy and Glen) of Edmonton, and their families; brother-in-law Bruce Hales (Loretta, children Jolene and Bruce Jr.); sister-in-law Carol Hales (children, Jackie, Tracey and Marty) and their families; special cousins, Sandra Wilson, her family of Valerie, Karen and Donald, David Wilson, June (Lorne) Thompson and Eleanor Wilson. He was predeceased by his parents Sam and Annie and brother-in-law Barry Hales. The Ceremony to Celebrate Lyall's life will take place at Memories Chapel, 330 18th Street North, on Sunday, April 17, 2016 (TOMORROW) at 2:00 p.m. with Pastor Susan LeSueur officiating. Taking part in the service are grandchildren Kaleb Wilson as Urn Bearer, Vicki Gerry and Lanney Badham candle bearers and Shayla Gerry carrying a rose of love. Honourary pallbearers are all those in attendance. A reception will follow at Odd Fellows Corner, 939-9th Street, Brandon, Manitoba. Donations in memory of Lyall may be made to the Brandon Regional Health Centre Foundation - Dialysis Unit, 150 McTavish Avenue East, Brandon, Manitoba R7A 2B3 or to Second Floor Activities, c/o Fairview Home, 1351-13th Street, Brandon, Manitoba R7A 4S6.
