SULLIVAN: Kathleen (Kay) Alice. Mrs. Kay Sullivan of Brandon, beloved wife of the late Frank Sullivan, dear mother of Don (Jan) and Doug, passed away peacefully at the Brandon Regional Health Centre on Monday, April 25th, 2016 at the age of 91. Kay was born in Brandon on January 7, 1925 to Fred and Alice Lewis and lived her entire life here. She and Frank were married in Brandon after WWII when he returned from overseas service. The war years were important to them both, and they shared a lasting love of big band, war-era music and lifetime affiliations and social connections with the Legion, Shilo and military events. Kay enjoyed a long career as a medical stenographer at the Brandon Clinic. In retirement, her interests revolved around her home, family and annual winter trips to Ixtapa, Mexico. She had her own way of saying "Hola" when she answered the phone after returning from sunny days away. She was an avid shopper and bargain hunter and made the rounds at thrift shops, finding all kinds of treasures - usually in pink or red! Kay was fond of dogs and owned a few Boston Terriers over the years. Her yard and deck still feature a large collection of ceramic dogs and birds. She loved dancing, watching her musical boys perform, flowers, shiny things, anything pink, funny cards, anything red, battery-operated or stuffed toys, noodles, chicken burgers and a daily five o'clock "pick-me-up". She is survived by her sons, Don (Jan) and Doug, treasured grandchildren, Patrick (Gillian) and Keesha and great-grandchildren, Eoin and Finlay. Her sisters Helen, Madeline and Mary and numerous nieces and nephews also survive. She was predeceased by her husband, Frank, parents Fred and Alice Lewis, brother Cliff and sister Mildred. Following a private graveside service at the Brandon Cemetery on Friday, April 29th, 2016 friends and family gathered for a memorial reception at the Royal Canadian Legion Branch #3, 560 - 13th St. East, Brandon. Arrangements were in care of Kurt Ardron - Redpath Funeral Home, Melita, MB. Memorial donations in memory of Kay may be made to the Brandon Regional Health Centre Foundation, 150 McTavish Avenue East, Brandon, MB R7A 2B3. The family wishes to acknowledge the dedication of home care providers and We Care staff who made it possible for Kay to remain in her home these past months. We will be forever grateful for the compassionate care provided by the doctors and nurses of the Brandon Regional Health Centre in her final days.
