ROSE: With family by her side, Hazel Marion Rose, age 87 years, widow of the late Wes Rose, and loving mother of Karen Benham, Donna Eastoe, and Dale (Diniece) Rose, passed away on Tuesday, May 3, 2016 at her residence, Fairview Home. Hazel was born on September 7, 1928 in Hamiota, Manitoba, where she was raised and received her education. She went to Winnipeg in 1946 to attend Normal School to become a teacher. She taught in rural Manitoba schools including Two Creeks and Elkhorn. While in Elkhorn, Hazel met Wes in the early 1950s and they were married on July 2, 1952. Wes worked as a CPR station agent and he and Hazel lived and were active in various communities over the years. They lived in Sinclair, Churchbridge (SK), Lyleton and Hartney. In 1971, they moved to Brandon, where they lived for the remainder of their lives. Hazel worked at various jobs after her children were in school, such as substitute teacher, school librarian, Black Bond bookstore and Woolco. In later life, she attended Brandon University and became a life-long learner. Her hobbies included cooking, reading, sewing, knitting, gardening and writing. Hazel enjoyed teaching Sunday School and presenting children stories at church. She taught 4-H, and participated as a volunteer for several years in the Westbran Project, Hillcrest Personal Care Home, CPR Pensioners group and writing for the Redeemer Lutheran Church newsletter. One of Hazel’s favourite past-times was helping to lead a “Writer’s Group” at Seniors for Seniors in Brandon. She loved entertaining friends and family and babysitting her grandchildren. She was also a member of a “Hazels Club” in Brandon. As well as her children, mentioned above, Hazel is survived by grandchildren Kevin Eastoe (Lynnsey), Andrea Malinowski (Warren Butt), Phillip & Bradley Rose and great grandchildren James Butt and Ethan Eastoe. Also surviving are siblings Bob and Les (Joan) Dale, Marlene (Len) Neufeld, sister-in-law Elaine Dale, numerous cousins, nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband Wes in 2005, and previously, parents Norman & Jane Dale, brothers Allan & Don Dale and sister Viola Pollock as well as son-in-law Murray Eastoe. The family would like to thank the staff at Fairview Personal Care Home for their loving care of our mother over the last 18 months. They became Mom’s extended family. Previous to living at Fairview, Hazel lived at Victoria Landing and the family also thank the staff there for their wonderful care and attention. The Funeral Service will take place at the Redeemer Lutheran Church, 114 Ashgrove Boulevard, on Monday, May 9, 2016 at 2:00 p.m. with viewing prior to the service. Pastor Laurel Seyfert will officiate. Interment will be at the Brandon Cemetery with a reception to follow at the church.
