WESTBURY: On Friday, May 13, 2016, Lillian Westbury (nee Culbertson), beloved mother of Ray (Pat) and James, passed away at Hillcrest Place at the age of 87 years. She is also survived by her grandchildren Robin Haslen, Shannon Westbury (Derek Jackson) and Geoff Westbury; Great-grandchildren McKenzie Haslen and Emma Gohla; Nicholas and Dylan Westbury, Maddox and Summer Jackson; sisters June Cumming (Garth) and May Clark. She was predeceased by her parents John and Sophie Culbertson, husband Arthur; sister Ethel; brothers Joe, Wesley, Oswald, John and Robert. Lillian was born in Brandon on January 22, 1929. She attended Fleming and Earl Oxford schools, later was employed at a bakery, Velvet Dip, eventually at Clements Super Thrifty Drug Store. She remained at Clements for many years working her way up to become a trained Orthotics Prosthetics Technician. She was grateful and proud when she was presented with an award for outstanding service by the Canadian Cancer Society. After retiring Lil and Art decided to join friends and live in Indio, California for five winters. They would return home to spend summers at their cottage in Rivers, Manitoba. She enjoyed socializing with friends and relatives, loved to entertain. Lots of laughter and fun times at her home. Lillian loved to sing, a passion she shared with her musical son James. She cherished her grandchildren and great-grandchildren spoiling them with lots of hugs and kisses, gifts and candy! After 60 years of marriage to Art, he passed away on January 22, 2008. Shortly after she moved to Hillcrest Place where she remained until her passing. A Ceremony to Celebrate Lillian's Life will take place at Memories Chapel, 330 18th Street North, on Friday, May 27, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. with Lydia Glawson, Funeral Celebrant officiating. Lillian will be laid to rest in a private ceremony at Rosewood Memorial Gardens. Urn bearer will be (very dear to her heart) granddaughter Robin Haslen. Those in attendance are considered honorary pallbearers. A reception will follow at Memories Chapel. Flowers are gratefully declined. Donations in memory of Lillian may be made to a charity of choice.
