SHAMANSKI: Elizabeth E. Shamanski died June 16, 2016 at her family farm near Wellwood, Manitoba. She lived there most of her life on the land bought by her grandfather Daniel Aikenhead around 1890 and later sold to his son-in-law Sigurdur Goodman, Betty's father. Betty was born in Winnipeg, Manitoba March 30, 1929. She completed grade eleven at Wellwood School and attended Brandon College for one year. With her teaching permit, she taught for one year before taking nurses training at Dauphin General Hospital, Dauphin, Manitoba. She married Robert Shamanski October 24, 1953 in Neepawa, Manitoba. They eventually took over the Goodman family farm in Wellwood at the end of 1962. Betty was a nurse at Carberry Hospital. She worked the midnight shift, but found time to raise six children. A back injury forced her to leave work in 1992. In retirement, she enjoyed most her garden, her kitchen, her family, and a good curling bonspiel on television. Betty leaves behind six children and many grandchildren: Robert, and his daughter Erica Sinclair; Shelley (Ron Dickson), and children Michael Dickson, Jaime Billaney, and Dana Kautz; Larry, and children Nicholas, Steven, Samantha, and Mackenzie; Trevor (Arla), and children Kalia, Tristan, Bryden, and Shaila; David (Francisco Alonso de la Cruz); and Kevin (Kim), and daughters Madison and Piper. She is also survived by 12 great-grandchildren and her brother Reg Goodman of P.E.I. She is predeceased by husband Robert, parents Sigurdur and Mildred Goodman, and sister Margaret Goodman. A funeral service was held June 25, 2016 at the Carberry United Church, Carberry, Manitoba.
