WOOD: The family of Barbara Helen Wood is saddened to announce her passing on July 3, 2016 at the Assiniboine Centre following a brief illness. Barbara grew up in Brandon as the sister of Ken, Dick, Ella, Catherine, Emily Lucille, Brenda, and Pat and the daughter of Helen and Albert Wood. She was predeceased by her parents, and her siblings Catherine, Don, and Ken. Barbara was an independent woman who was loved and respected by her family for her loyalty, devotion, and strong work ethic. She worked as an office administrator at Hughes and Co. and later at Westman Cable before retiring early in order to care for her aging mother. Barbara loved the outdoors. She enjoyed camping and traveling throughout Western Canada, Hawaii, and other US points. Many summers were enjoyed at Clear Lake. She was a faithful woman who attended the McDiarmid Drive Alliance Church. Barbara loved gardening and spending time in her backyard enjoying nature. There was a special place in Barbara's heart for her beloved cats with whom she took great pleasure in spoiling over the years. For years she was an active member of the Toastmistress of Brandon and received commendations for her excellent speeches. Barbara will be remembered by all as a strong, kind woman with a great sense of humor who demonstrated an unwavering commitment to her family. She took an active interest in the lives of her nieces and nephews and was quick to lend a hand to any family member in need. A private family service to honor Barbara's life has taken place.
