SMITH: Violet June. It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of our dear Mom, Grandma and Great Grandma, June Smith. She passed away peacefully with her family by her side on Friday, September 2, 2016 at the age of 81. June was born a couple miles north of Austin on June 21, 1935 to Charlie and Alma Anderson. She attended Springbrook School. She married Melford Smith on June 8, 1957 and they raised three children together. She spent her life looking after her family and was constantly on the go with gardening, canning and baking. There was no one who could bake bread like our mom! She would have buns fresh out of the oven as we got off the school bus. She spent a brief five years working outside the house at Carnation. In 1992 she suffered a brain aneurysm and had an operation that she came through with flying colors. We were so fortunate to have another 23 years with her. June and Melford moved from the farm and retired to Austin in 1993. She loved to coffee at the local coffee shops and will miss all her coffee friends. She was predeceased by her husband of 57 years in January 2015 and is survived by children Debra (Jim) and their children, Kim (Joe) and Krista (Joey); Darryl (Linda) and their children, Lindsey (Mathew) and their children Teagan and Taylor, Corey (Heather) and their children Brooke, Hunter and Skylar, Jenna (Anthony); Barry (Helen) and their children Bailey, Boyd, and Bowdie. She is also survived by her sister Nellie Nelson and her sister-in-law Catherine Smith. June was predeceased by her father, Charlie and mother Alma and sisters Alice, Ella, Ruth, and her brother Carl. Viewing will be held on Thursday, September 8, 2016 from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at Clarkes Funeral Chapel, Gladstone. Funeral Service will be held on Friday, September 9, 2016 at 2:00 p.m. at the Austin Community Hall with Shannon Bodnarchuk officiating. Interment will follow at the Gladstone Cemetery.
