POTTER: Thelma Doris Potter (née Chandler) of Brandon, Manitoba passed away at the Brandon Regional Health Centre on Monday, September 5, 2016. Thelma was born on April 13, 1923 at Basswood Manitoba to Richard and Annie Chandler. Following her Normal School teacher training, she secured a position as a teacher at Hazeldean School in Deloraine. It was there that she met and married Lloyd Orland Potter on May 3, 1947. Thelma and Orland had their first home on the family homestead south of Deloraine. Here they worked a small acreage and had four children. They moved to Brandon in 1955 and had five more children. Thelma was well known for her baking (doughnuts) and canning. She loved to sing and sang at many weddings and special events. Along the way she developed a passion for quilting, embarking on a mission to give each of her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren a handcrafted quilt. She was very active in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. Thelma was predeceased by her father Richard; her mother Annie; her brother Alec; her sister Frances; her sister Connie; her son Ron; and her granddaughter Angela. She leaves to mourn her passing her husband Orland; her daughters Sharon (Bruce), Patricia (Brian), Debbie, Sandie, and Heather; her sons Jack (Darlene), Bob, and Bill, her 21 grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren, and two great-great- grandchildren. She also leaves her sister Sylvia (Jack) and brother Eddie. A Funeral Service to Celebrate Thelma’s Life will be held at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, 107 Queen’s Avenue East, on Monday, September 12th, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. A time of Visitation will be held prior to the Service.
