HORN: On Tuesday, October 4, 2016, Clarence William Horn, passed away suddenly at the Assiniboine Centre with his family by his side. He will be lovingly remembered and sadly missed by Doreen, his wife of 58 years; sons Bill (Debbie) and Gary (Shannon) of Brandon; grandchildren Trevor (Lori) of Brandon, Blair of Winnipeg, Marilee (Rob) and Michelle of Brandon; step-granddaughter Jenn (Chad); great-grandchildren Jersey, Harper, Jasper and Kylie. Clarence also leaves to mourn his brother Alfred (Dolores); sisters Evelyn Murray and Lottie McGee; brother-in-law Ken (Olive) Hutchison and sister- in-law Joan (Mervyn) Rookes as well as numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents Gladys and Wilfred Horn, parents -in-law Andrew and Ethel Hutchison; brothers- in-law Ken McGee and Hal Murray. Born in Regent, Manitoba on January 13, 1935, Clarence also received his schooling there. While working in Brandon, Clarence met his wife Doreen and they were married April 12, 1958, with their son Bill arriving in January 1959. In the fall of that year, they moved to Winnipeg, where Clarence worked with a plumbing firm and went to Winnipeg Tec School obtaining his plumbing license. Gary was born in July of 1960. Returning to Brandon in 1965, Clarence worked at various plumbing firms. In 1974, Clarence started work with Government Services at Brandon Mental Health Centre from where he retired after 21 years. Very active in his sons lives, Clarence coached them in ball and hockey, and helped them with their many projects. Clarence and Doreen were avid square dancers for more than thirty years and enjoyed camping with family and friends. They joined the Prairie Crocus Good Sam Club in 1998 and travelled to many Samborees in Canada and the United States. His hobbies and interests included playing cards, dancing, wood carving, stained glass and puzzles. For 15 years, he was an active volunteer at Scandinavian Hostfest, Minot, ND. Clarence especially enjoyed being with his family and friends. He and Doreen enjoyed travelling in their fifth wheel to Texas for winters after their retirement. Many memories were created touring Great Britain, Ireland, a four island tour of Hawaii and trips to Branson, Las Vegas, Australia, New Zealand, a cruise to Alaska, a Caribbean Cruise and trips to the East and West Coast. The Celebration of Clarence's Life took place at Memories Chapel on Tuesday, October 11, 2016. Lydia Glawson, Funeral Celebrant, officiated. The committal took place at the Brandon Cemetery Columbarium.
