VICKERY: It is with profound sadness and yet a blessing, as we say good-bye to Roberta Vickery on October 17, mother to Ken and Brenda, after a very long and courageous struggle with cancer. Roberta was born to Bob and Jean Blackwell at Harding, Manitoba on the farm, weighing in at a whopping three pounds. After finishing school in Harding, she moved to Brandon and worked at Eatons for a short time. On Feb. 25, 1959 she married Gerald Vickery and moved to the farm west of Hamiota. Over the years, she worked at McLeods, the Dental office, the Hamiota Hotel and the Hamiota District Health Centre. Roberta belonged to the Hamiota Ladies Curling Club, where she enjoyed many years of curling. She also loved watching curling phoning Brenda throughout the game did you see that shot? Roberta and Gerry took a trip to New Brunswick for a World Curling event, loving the eastern hospitality. Her passion was being at her cabin at the South End of Shoal Lake, that Gerry and her bought in the late 60s. She loved her cabin, the space, the solitude and was evident by the many photos she took, of the beautiful sunsets, and that hummingbird collection! Yes, she would sit for hours waiting for that perfect hummingbird picture! She could be found at her cabin from early May until late September, loving every minute of it. Most of all, her family was her world. She leaves to mourn, her son Ken (Lorraine), daughter Brenda (Dave), grandson Ryan (Kirstin), and great-grandson Ethan. Also mourning Robertas passing is sister-in-law Nora Shier, brothers-in-law Doug Vickery (Judy) and Dick Hills, along with many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband Gerald, parents Bob and Jean Blackwell, sister Lillian Blackwell, father-in-law and mother-in-law Gordon and Lois Vickery, sister-in-law Evelyn Hills, brother -in-law Gerald Shier, sister-in-law and brother- in-law Sheila and Frank Thiede, sister-in-law Velda Vickery. We would like to thank the Hamiota Hospital and Birch Lodge for their wonderful care and compassion during her time there. A graveside service (everyone welcome) will be held on Tuesday, October 25, 2016 at 11:00 am at the Hamiota Cemetery, Hamiota with a luncheon to follow at the Hamiota Community Centre. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Burlington Beach Cabin Owners Association, Box 482, Hamiota, MB, R0M 0T0; the Hamiota District Heath Centre, Hamiota, MB, R0M 0T0; or the Canadian Cancer Society MB, 415 1st St., Brandon, MB, R7A 2W8.I Love You ForeverTo our mom:Mom you mean the world to usIt's hard to live without youYou were always by our sideThrough thick and thin you helped usNow when you're gone our life is hard to liveIt's hard to breath,It's hard to seeAnd it's hard to think about anything but you.Even though your love will shine in us forever, it's still hard not to look for your hand to hold.Even though youre not here with us in the fleshWe still have you in our hearts and in our memories. We love you forever mom.
