KENNEDY: On Thursday, October 20, 2016, Effie Kennedy passed away at her residence, Valleyview Care Centre. She was born April 20, 1930 in Miami, Manitoba. Growing up Effie drove horse to school for her siblings; sled in winter, cart in summer. She attended Debonaire School (a one room country school) and then Roland High School. When her father passed away, Effie quit school to go to work and help provide for the family. Over the years Effie worked various places such as Eatons Grocery Store (old Eaton's downtown Winnipeg) and Beauman Printers, Winnipeg. She was an MTS Operator in Roland, Manitoba then Oak Lake (the last telephone operator prior to its closing) and also the Managing bookkeeper for the family business. In 1982, Effie became the secretary at Bethel Christian Assembly School. She was the President of the Bethel Christian Assembly Woman's Missionary Group. When not working Effie enjoyed volunteering, knitting and especially spending time with family, babysitting her grandchildren and others. Travelling was also a favourite past time, spending her winters in Victoria, BC. Effie will be lovingly remembered by her husband Carl; son Daryl (Yvonne) Kennedy, granddaughter Michelle (Lance) Dornn, great-grandchildren Layton and Ty, granddaughter Jo-Anne (Reg) Spencer, granddaughter Angela (Cory) Bird, great-grandchildren Zaina, Daija, and Zaiden; son Richard (Iris) Kennedy, grandson Derek (Karla) Kennedy, great-grandchildren Ben and Madison, grandson Carl (Amanda) Kennedy, great-granddaughter Tatyana, granddaughter Tania (Kent) Oftstie, great-grandchildren Kyran, Kezia and Scarlette; son Keith (April) Kennedy. Also surviving are sisters Marion Yeo, Dorothy Kirkland and Wendy (Gary) Childerhose; sisters-in-law Bernice Lewis, Margarite (Jim) Logan and Doreen Kennedy; brother-in -law David (Evelyne) Reid and numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents Willis and Elsie Lewis; brothers Jimmy Lewis, Jack Lewis and sister Fay Reid. The Funeral Service took place at Bethel Christian Assembly on Thursday, October 27, 2016. Pastor Len Smith officiated. Pallbearers were Wayne Phillips, Brian Sholdice, George Abey, Arnold Mitchell, Singh Oun and Chuck Burton. Interment followed at Rosewood Memorial Gardens.
