BONKOWSKI: Walter Tony Bonkowski of Brandon, Manitoba passed away suddenly on Tuesday, December 27, 2016. Walter was born on September 5, 1942 in the unorganized district of Bifrost, Manitoba (in the Riverton area). Walter received his early years education at Progress and Ledwyn Schools, and attended Riverton High School. He grew up helping out on the familys mixed farm. Walter worked his way through the Co-op system retiring as General Manager in 1997. Walter had many interests and involvements including membership in the Masonic Lodge and Shriners, First Responder, Chamber Committee member, and Lukkenfest. He was an avid sports fan; loved his curling, golf, baseball, and hockey. He shared his passion for dancing, instructing and performing Clogging and Line Dance. Walter was a devoted parishioner and member of Trinity United Church, where he avidly volunteered his time and faith and served as the custodian for 15 years. Walter is survived by his wife Donalda (Manastyr), three children: Wesley (Jacquie), Teresa (Mike), and Trevor (Marilyn); grandchildren Nathan, Rebecca (Raymond), Ashley, Brett (Kanesha), Dakota (Jenna), Mitchell (Hilary), Kaitlyn, and great-grandson Aaden. He was predeceased by his father Tony, his mother Anna, his sisters Phyllis, and Judy. A celebration of Walters life will be held at Trinity United Church, 1515-6th Street, Brandon, MB on Tuesday, January 3, 2017 at 2:00 p.m. with Rev. Doug Neufeld officiating. Urn placement will take place prior to the service at Brandon Cemetery Columbarium. In lieu of flowers, donations in Walters memory may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation, Trinity United Church, or a charity of ones own choice.
