MOXHAM: Marjorie Rose Moxham, a fearless former nurse who canoed among alligators in Florida and swam with stingrays in the Caribbean, died December 23rd in Red Deer, Alberta. She was 91. Marj was a beloved mother, grandmother and great-grandmother who spent her spare time gardening, sewing, knitting and bird watching. She continued to take camping trips into her late 80s and was an avid fan of hockey, baseball and curling. She kept close watch on politics and current events, listening to the CBC News in the early morning while making baking powder biscuits and poppy seed loaves. She was always impeccably dressed and impossibly organized. Marj was born in Fairlight, Saskatchewan, in 1925, and graduated nursing school in 1947. She took her first assignment in Houston, Texas, with three close friends before returning to Brandon. There, she met her husband of 39 years, Frederick, on a blind date. Together, they travelled to Hawaii and Great Britain. She learned to drive when she was in her late 60s, and after her husbands death continued her travelling to visit family in Florida and Alberta. She moved to Red Deer in 2006. Marj was a strong advocate of protecting the environment and was very proud of her Canadian heritage. She was an active member of Knox United Church for many years. Marj is survived by her two daughters, Janice Findlay and her husband, Jeff, and Lorraine Moxham-Smith and her husband, Greg; her grandchildren, Ryan Findlay, Andrew Findlay, Anna Findlay Black, Bryce Hudey and Stephanie Hudey; and great grandson, Norman Black. A memorial service and celebration of life will take place this summer when her remains will be interred with her beloved husband in the Brandon Cemetery. The family suggests donations to Marj's preferred charities, Save the Children and Doctors Without Borders.
