WATSON: Leslie Lyle Watson of Virden, Manitoba, passed away at Virden Health Centre, Friday, December 30, 2016 after a lengthy battle with cancer. Lyle was born on the family farm in the West Hall area, the eldest child of Les and Tillie Watson. He attended West Hall School before starting farming with his father. On October 24, 1953, Lyle married Beulah Ross (nee Sexton) and welcomed Beulahs son Robert into their new family. They farmed in the West Hall district, and together had two more children, Laura and David. In 1995, Lyle and Beulah sold the family farm and retired to Virden. They enjoyed their retirement together until Beulahs passing in 2012. Lyle was involved in the community, serving on the West Hall school board, the Hathaway Elevator committee, and for over 30 years, on the Hartney Credit Union board. Lyle enjoyed sports of all types. He played hockey when he was younger but played ball, golfed and curled into his eighties. He also enjoyed fishing and hunting both deer and waterfowl. His family and friends will remember Lyle as a person who enjoyed life. He was outgoing and put strangers at ease around him. He could visit with anyone. Lyle and Beulah spent time travelling throughout Canada and the US, and for more than twenty-five years thoroughly enjoyed spending the winters in Arizona. Dancing and happy hour with their many friends were sources of great fun for all. In the summers, they enjoyed trips in their fifth wheel and fishing on Lake of the Prairie. There were very few milestones in the lives of his children or grandchildren that he missed. Friends often remarked on how close his family was and how much they enjoyed being in each others company, sharing a story, a game, or a glass of Lyles wine. Lyle will be lovingly remembered by his son Robert Ross (Lois), daughter Laura (Rick Wright), and son David Watson (Vivian). Grandchildren Vincent (Maribel) Ross, Danny Wright, Erin Watson, Carla Watson, and great-grandson Rex Ross will remember that Grandpa always had time for them. Lyle is also survived by his sisters, Beth Ewen, Janet (Bruce) Clevett, sister-in-law Hilda Sexton and numerous nieces and nephews. Lyle was predeceased by his wife Beulah, grandson Chris Ross and parents Les and Tillie Watson. A celebration of Lyles life will be held Saturday, January 14, 2017, at 2:00 p.m. at St. Pauls United Church, 286 Nelson St. W, Virden, Manitoba with The Reverend Janis Campbell officiating. A private family interment will take place at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Lyle may be made to Prairie Mountain Health for Virden and Area Palliative Care, P.O.
