WELLS: James Lloyd Jim Wells, passed away at Rideau Park Personal Care Home on January 28, 2017 at the age of 93 years. Jim was born on a farm in Wellwood, MB on December 26, 1923 to Jack (John James) Wells and Ada (Whitmore) Wells. He is survived by his wife Lorraine (Fisher) of 68 years and her brother Elroy and sister Margie. Jim was the fourth in a family of ten children. He was predeceased by six of his siblings: Winona (Taverna); Dawn (Graham); Andy (Iris); Beth (Davidson); Alex (Helen); and Joan. He is survived by three of his siblings: John and Charlie of Kamloops, B.C. and Frances (Fraser) and Bill of Neepawa, MB. Jim and Lorraine had two daughters, Marlene and Cheryl and four grandchildren: Sean and Brianna Latimer and Jonas and Jordon Christie, and nine great grandchildren. In 1943, Jim joined the Princess Patricia Canadian Light Infantry (PPCLI). After training at Fort Osborne, Fort Garry and Shilo, he was sent to Italy. He was discharged in 1946 and spent most of his working life in Brandon, first at the Experimental Farm and then at the Mental Hospital, first on the farm and later on maintenance. He was a faithful member of the United Church in Brandon, the Foresters, Kiwanis and Square Dance clubs. Jim and Lorraine have spent the last several years together at the Rideau Park Personal Care Home in Brandon where they were always appreciative of the competent and caring staff there who went above and beyond to make their stay a pleasant one. Jim will be remembered as a hard worker with an endearing sense of humor and as a loving husband, father and grandfather.A Memorial Service was held at the Brockie Donovan Chapel on February 6, 2017 with Rev. Milo Spooner Craig officiating. Interment followed at the Brandon Cemetery. Donations in memory of Jim may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society, 415-1st Street, Brandon, MB, R7A 2W8.
