BROOKS: A year has passed since the passing of our beloved husband, father, and grandfather Douglas Allan on February 27, 2016 at the age of 59 years. Doug was born in Hamiota on May 3, 1956. He attended school in Hamiota, taking part in 4-H and high school curling. After graduating, Doug enrolled in an agricultural exchange program which took him to Australia for 6 months. He returned home to work for Edson Manufacturing and began life as a farmer, eventually owning his own farm. In 1977, Doug met his future wife Donna. They were married September 30, 1978 and welcomed children Jennifer and Justin to their family. Doug continued to farm with his family. He was introduced to the Chianina cattle breed by his father-in-law which began his interest in raising chi/angus cattle. During this time, he served on the board of the local Manitoba Pool Elevator as secretary. Justin and his wife Becky blessed him with his first grandchild, Grady, in September 2014. Grandpa and Grady had their own special bond. Doug enjoyed curling, camping and golfing. He especially enjoyed the time spent with his family at Clear Lake each July and this became a family tradition. He also had a love for music and attending live rock concerts with his family. Doug discovered his enjoyment for trucking, which led him across central and western Canada. Eventually, Justin purchased his own highway tractor and together they formed Brooks Transport. After 10 years of trucking, Doug was forced to put trucking on hold due to his health, however continued farming with his son up until his passing. Doug will be forever missed by his wife Donna, daughter Jennifer, son Justin (Becky), grandson Grady, brothers Dennis (Dianne), Warren (Kathy), sister Nancy (Norm) Ward, mother-in-law Edith McPhail, brother-in-law Robert McPhail, sister-in-law Janice (Garry) Webber and their families. Doug was predeceased by his parents Norval and Rosalie Brooks and father-in-law Ron McPhail. Funeral services to celebrate Doug's life were held March 3, 2016 at the Hamiota United Church. Donations may be made in Doug's memory to the ALS Society of Manitoba, 2A-1717 Dublin Avenue, Winnipeg, Manitoba, R3H 0H2 or to a charity of one's choice.
