HOOD: Margaret Helen Hood (1920-2017). Margaret was born February 07, 1920, on the family farm in southeastern Saskatchewan, and passed away February 20, 2017 in the Carberry Personal Care Home, shortly after her 97th birthday. She was predeceased by her brothers George Leslie (Les) Hood and Robert (Bob) Mills Hood, as well as by her niece Phyllis Ann Hood. Margaret attended the one-room Orangedale School a half mile from the home farm, completed high school in Ontario (Moulton College) and graduated from the University of Manitoba in 1945. Brandon became her home. She taught Home Economics at Brandon Collegiate from 1945 to 1957 and at Neelin High School from 1957 until her retirement in 1980. Margaret was a world traveler, travelling with school teacher friends to many parts of the world before they became well known tourist destinations. She played a major role in the lives of her family, and will be greatly missed by her nieces Irene (Roger McCullough) of Ottawa and Patricia (Moe Elliott) of Surrey, BC, by her nephew Robert (Bob) Hood of Saskatoon, by step-nephew Alan Wilkins of Regina and step-niece Sherri Wagner of Hague, and by all the great nieces and nephews. There was always a particularly close bond with the Hood-Muirhead double cousins to whom she was also ‘Aunt Marg’ and who will mourn her loss, as will their sons and daughters: Barry and Peggy Hood of Carberry; Gordon and Sandra Hood of Calgary; Bruce and Cheryl Hood of Carberry; Iris (Mike Ollington) of Gimli; Gwen (Bill Korchinski) of Boissevain, and Arla (Trevor Shamanski) of Carberry. The family want to express their very sincere thanks to the exceptionally caring staff at both Hillcrest Place in Brandon and the Carberry Personal Care Home. At Margaret’s request, there will be no service. Family will gather for the interment in Carberry Cemetery, date to be decided. White’s Funeral Home is in care of the arrangements.
