LONGSTAFF: Douglas Earnest Longstaff passed away at the Minnedosa Hospital on March 10, 2017 at the age of 96. He was born on October 30th, 1920 in Blanshard Municipality to Earnest and Beatrice Longstaff. He was the third child of six. Doug attended school at Cardale. He enlisted in the Royal Canadian Air Force in October 1941 and served in Annette Island in Alaska, England, India and Burma. When he returned home after the war, he took his first year diploma course at the University of Manitoba and in the spring of 1947 he began farming. Doug married Mildred McLaren on October 25, 1952. He and Mildred farmed until 1973 then Doug took up crop adjusting. Doug loved the farm and enjoyed gardening, which he continued throughout his life. Doug will be remembered for his positive outlook and grateful heart. Mildred passed away October 1988. Doug moved to Minnedosa in 1989 where he kept himself busy volunteering at the heritage park and driving the handy van. Doug was an active member in the Legion. Doug married Ruby Campbell in September of 2006. They enjoyed taking drives to check on the crops and grooming their flowers and grass. Doug was predeceased by his sister Winnie Yorke, brothers Charlie and Rolland, brothers-in-law Tom Yorke and Bert Baldwin, nephews Bruce Longstaff and Ray Baldwin. He is survived by his second wife Ruby, brother William (Peggy), sister Mary Baldwin and many nieces and nephews. The funeral service was held at the Minnedosa Covenant Church and he was laid to rest at the Rapid City cemetery. Donations may be given to Minnedosa Covenant Church, the Commonwealth Air Training Plan Museum in Brandon or The Minnedosa Legion. Minnedosa Funeral Service in care of arrangements.
