EDGAR: On Friday, March 17, 2017, Charles “Barry” Edgar passed away at Hillcrest Place Personal Care Home, Brandon, MB in his 84th year. Barry will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 63 years, Roberta; daughters: Lori (Ken) Jones and Janie (Garry) McNish; four grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren: Jeremy (Lachalle) Jones (children Dayton, Addyson, Isabelle and Vann), Katie (Dwayne) Bugg (children Nolan, Merrik and Jovie), Matt (Adrienne) McNish (children Alexa and Brody) and Lisa (Matt) Eldridge (children Evan and Tessa). Barry is also survived by sister Shirley Edgar; sister-in-law Donna Freeman; several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by his parents Herb and Laura Edgar; in-laws Bill and Jen Freeman; brother-in-law Jack Freeman. Barry, also affectionately known as “Bun” was born and raised on the family farm in Lyleton, MB. on September 22, 1933. Barry was proud of his farming life and the 34 years he and his father, Herb were associated with the Manitoba Department of Agriculture as a Research Station. Barry and Roberta were married in Melita, MB on a warm fall day, November 14, 1953. Together, they farmed (grain and cattle) and raised their two daughters, Lori and Janie, in the small close-knit community of Lyleton; volunteering on many boards and committees mainly revolving around the school, church, community hall and local rink. Barry is a lifelong sports enthusiast and participant - hockey with the Pierson Bruins, baseball with the Lyleton Leafs and slow pitch with the South West Coyotes, in mid to later life enjoying curling and golf. There are many rewards in being a team member and Barry was proud to be a part of the Lyleton Baseball team (1955-1960 era) that was inducted into the Manitoba Baseball Hall of Fame in 2006. In 1997, he was on the Brandon Curling Club team that won the Manitoba Masters Championship. A lifetime of sports and along with that, a lifetime of teammates, lasting friendships and fun! Barry and Roberta retired to Brandon in 1997, enjoying homes and neighbors on Wedgewood Bay, Crocus Gardens, Riverheights Terrace and most recently a move to Hillcrest Place Personal Care Home this past December. Together, they have enjoyed travelling many miles in Canada, the United States and beyond, spending a few winters in Palm Springs, California. Barry was a true gentleman – kind and soft spoken. He was a man of great style and class with a good sense of humor and a twinkle in his eye. A life well lived! A celebration of Barry’s life was held on Thursday, March 23, 2017 at 2:00 p.m. at the Lyleton United Church with (rev.) Heather Sandilands officiating. Internment followed at the Lyleton Cemetery, concluding with a time of fellowship at the Lyleton Community Hall with family and friends.
