PICKUP: Sonia Pickup. On March 25, 2017, after a brief but valiant battle with cancer, Sonia Pickup left this world the way she would have lived her life, surrounded by the love of her family. Sonia will be lovingly remembered by her children Annette (John), John (Becky), and Terry (Michelle), her grandchildren George (Natasha), Kevin (Alicia), Jordyn, Sydney and Vanessa, great grandchildren Kaylee and Maya, brother-in-law Archie DeGaust, best friend Livia Basaraba, special friend Lorry and her many nieces and nephews. Sonia was predeceased by her sisters Rose and Sylvia. Sonia was kind, loyal and loving. She took care of family and friends with no expectations — simply a kind and generous heart. A role model for us all, she followed the accomplishments of her children and grandchildren with pride, travelling to sporting events and cheering in the crowd. They were the focal point of her life. Her grandchildren shared a special bond with Sonia — her door, her heart and her refrigerator were always open to them. Sonia will be remembered for her two great talents and passions, gardening and cooking. Her extended family spent many lovely Sunday afternoons in her home eating family dinner and sitting on her porch among the flowers. In the winter, there was always a curling game on the television playing in the background. Sonia had a lifelong love of the game and played when she was younger. As Sonia was a practical woman and always thinking of others, her final wishes were to have a small, private, family service “when it gets warmer.” Cremation has taken place.
