DAVIES: Olive Gwendolyn. Beloved mother and grandmother, Olive Davies, passed away on April 20, 2017 at the age of 93. She will be lovingly remembered by her children, Marilyn Willoughby (Don), Jennifer Biefer (Stephen) as well as her grandchildren, Jocelyn and Ryan Willoughby and Kristen, David and Michelle Biefer. Olive was predeceased by her husband, Ernest in 1988 and her son, Robert, in 1994. Olive was born on October 17, 1923 in Bristol, England. She was a gifted musician and she was accepted into a Symphony Orchestra as a violinist. WWII ensued and instead she joined the Land Army where she met Ernest. They were married in 1947 in Painswick, Cotswold Hills and immigrated to Canada that same year to settle in southern Manitoba. After several years in Treherne where they farmed, they moved to Hartney and then to Souris. Olive continued to enjoy music, even learning basic piano while in her 50s, her favourite composer being Chopin. She will be remembered for her love of quoting proverbs when she thought that the situation warranted it. She will be lovingly remembered for her open heart and kind nature which gained her a coterie of steadfast friends, most (but not all) of whom predeceased her. Olive dearly loved her children and grandchildren. In her quiet manner, she took enormous pride in them. The family would like to thank the staff of the Souris Personal Care Center where she spent the last 10 years of her life. Also, special thanks to Cheryl Doull, who treated her like family and helped keep our Mums interest in those around her alive while, among many other things, keeping her supplied with sweets. At her request, there will be no formal funeral service. Cremation has taken place and a private family interment will be held at the Souris & Glenwood Cemetery. The family invites friends to join us in a celebration of her life on Saturday, May 20, 2017 from 2:30-3:30 p.m. at the Souris Personal Care Home.
