STEWART (nee PETERS): Clara Louise - Peacefully, with her family at her side, at Rideau Park Personal Care Home in Brandon on April 22, 2017 in her 92nd year. Beloved wife and best friend of Lloyd for sixty-nine and a half years before his passing in December 2015. Survived by her older sister Eva. Loving mother of Wayne, Ron and his wife Terry, Beth, and Maureen. Also survived by her grandchildren Michael, Angela, Vanessa, Lisa, Chelsey, Kelly, Connor, Ariel and Caitlin and by her great-grandchildren William, Ava, Matthew, Ethan and Emily. Clara grew up in Shoal Lake and later served in the Canadian Womens Army Corps in Ottawa during World War II. After the war, she attended and graduated from Normal School in Winnipeg. She married Lloyd in 1946 and moved south east of Decker where they farmed for 40 years before retiring to Brandon in 1986. While raising a family of four, Clara embraced all aspects of life on a farm, whether it be baking, cooking, gardening, canning, poultry farming, truck driving or harvesting. Clara was active in her communities. She contributed to many functions and causes associated with Decker United Church including the United Church Women and Canadian Girls in Training. Clara was a founding member of the Hamiota Art Club. In Brandon, she was active with Seniors for Seniors. She was a gifted artist, avid mystery book reader and keen sports fan, especially the Toronto Blue Jays, but nothing was more important to Clara than her family. Love, encouragement and unwavering support were always paramount. An interment ceremony was held for family members at the Hamiota Cemetery on Saturday, April 29, 2017 and a Celebration of Life followed in the Hamiota United Church. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Alzheimer Society of Manitoba and CancerCare Manitoba are welcomed.
