DONALD: Hilda Donald (Grant) June 18, 1927-February 18, 2017 Hilda peacefully joined her beloved and deeply missed husband Doug on February 18, 2017. Born and raised on a farm in the Pipestone district, Hilda was the third of four children born to Joseph and Elizabeth Grant. During her happy childhood years, she attended school in Pipestone, belonged to the Pipestone 4-H club and the rest of her time was spent surrounded by her loving family on the family farm. Hilda married Doug Donald of the Linklater district on October 12, 1948. Together they farmed on the Donald family farm until 1993 when they moved to Reston and then, in 2001, moved to Virden. Hilda enjoyed working outside on the farm and spent countless hours tending to her large vegetable and flower gardens. Her love for sewing, which remarkably was self-taught, was apparent to everyone who knew her. She prided herself on her perfectly crafted stuffed animals, Care Bears, Barbie Doll clothes, Raggedy Ann and Andy dolls. In her later years, she revelled in turning small pieces of fabric into beautiful quilts. Throughout the years, she was an active member of the Linklater Guild, the Legion Ladies Auxiliary and a valued volunteer at the West-Man Nursing Home. Family was Hildas most treasured possession and spending time with them brought her immense joy. Hilda will be most remembered for her friendliness, thoughtfulness, and special way of greeting others with her gentle, heartwarming smile. A celebration of Hildas life took place at Reston United Church on April 15, 2017, with Joyce Marsh officiating. Hildas eldest son, Grant Donald, acted as urn bearer and a heartfelt tribute was delivered by Kara-Leah Gonty, her granddaughter. Ken and Rob Milliken attended as ushers. Justine Burke beautifully accompanied the United Church Choir and warm, comforting voice of soloist Dean Munchinsky. Following the luncheon, Hilda was laid to rest in a private family ceremony at the Reston Cemetery. Hilda was predeceased by her loving husband and best friend Doug, who passed away on March 20, 2006. She is lovingly remembered by her children Grant (Barb), Kerry (Eddie), Melva, Larry (Louise), Leigh (Randy); grandchildren Kara-Leah, Charmagne (Clayton), Mila, Brendan, Kelly (Phil), Chris (Andrea), Cody; great-grandchildren Jaylen, Maleigha, Nilsson, Shaune, Lincoln, Houston, Davis, and Lennox; Brother Bill Grant; In-laws Nadine Donald, Marilyn Donald, Tom Cook, Ivan and Sandra Donald, as well as, numerous nieces and nephews. On behalf of Hildas family, we would like to extend our gratitude to those who attended the service and shared their condolences. A sincere thank you to those who showed various acts of kindness and sympathies with cards, calls, visits, gift cards, meals, baking, flowers and donations in Moms memory. Lastly, we would like to express our appreciation to Dr. Roux and his exceptional staff at the Reston Transition Centre for the dedicated care our mom received while she was back home in Reston. Our beloved mom, grandma and great-grandma has departed the bonds of earth but will never be forgotten because the precious memories of her will live in our hearts forever.
