SOBIE: Sylvia Elizabeth (nee Mosiondz), Sylvia has traveled on to her next destination on April, 29, 2017. A current resident of Brandon, she was a former resident of Lynn Lake, Manitoba and a temporary winter resident of Weslaco, Texas and cottager at Berge Lake, Manitoba and Christopher Lake, Saskatchewan. Sylvia was born in the Canora area of Saskatchewan on June 19, 1936. Her family moved to the Birch River, Manitoba area when she was a young child. There she attended Drury School. In 1954, she married Thomas Sobie (formerly Sobischanski) and together they moved to Lynn Lake and owned and managed Sobie’s Bakery – where she became a crackerjack donut maker and master cake decorator. After she and Tom retired they bought and managed Lakeview North Apartments and Townhouses in Lynn Lake. She was a “Warrior Mama” and excellent role model to Ron, Shelley (Doug) Stockham, Rick (Lorna), Kelly Sobie (Phillip McGregor) and Jolie (Alex) Verbo. She was a divine grandma to Rob (Karrie) Stockham, Daryl (Susie) Stockham, Dustin (Zsa Zsa) Sobie, Lynsey (Joey) Foxon, Adam and Eric Verbo, and an awesome Great G-Ma to Kole and Kori Stockham, Zoey and Matthew Stockham and Jordyn and soon to be born great-grand baby Foxon. Gone on to join her husband of 40 years Tom, partner of 10 years Lorne Goodheart, parents Lena and Alex Mosiondz, sister Anne, and brothers Metro, Lawrence and Bill. Sylvia was fierce, generous, compassionate, honest and courageous to her family, friends and community. She was part counselor and rock. She loved activity, being outdoors walking (and when it was icy, mall walker extraordinaire), curling, gardening, bocce ball, shuffle board, lawn bowling, card player, Polka dancer and washboard player in a Texas Jug Band. Game to try anything her family and friends threw at her, whether it was boating, fishing, or traveling to Indonesia in her 70’s, she gave it a go! She was an avid baseball, curling and hockey spectator and country music listener. She magically produced delicious large family meals, was a proud collector of bowling and curling trophies and creative master builder of Barbie furniture using shampoo bottles and her Singer sewing machine skills. The Ceremony to Celebrate Sylvia's Life took place at Memories Chapel on Friday, May 5, 2017. Arlene Robertson officiated. Sylvia will be laid to rest beside her husband, Thomas Sobie at Lynn Lake Cemetery at a later date. Donations in memory of Sylvia may be made to a charity of choice.Farewell mum,our proud guardian angel, until we join you again.Expressions of sympathy may be made at www.memorieschapel.com
