SZELLER: Susanne (Susan) Hildegard passed away peacefully May 24, 2017 at Guelph General Hospital of natural causes in her 94th year surrounded by her son Michael and his wife Jeanette. Resident of Norfolk Manor in Guelph, Ontario, formerly of Brandon, Manitoba. Susanne is survived by her nephews Harald and Has-Jürgen and their children and grandchildren, predeceased by her sisters and brothers. Susanne was born in Königsberg, East Prussia, Germany in 1923 and served as a nurse with the German Army in WWII. She emigrated to England after the war, where she met her husband Bogdan (Bill). After marrying, they emigrated to Canada where she worked as a Nurse’s Aid in Elliot Lake, Ontario and had their son Michael. Susanne and her son moved to Guelph after divorcing her husband, where she trained as a social worker. She graduated from a unique program with Human Service Community. She worked with Big Brothers in Guelph and then moved to Rivers, Manitoba to work as a Life Skills Coach at Oo-za-we-kwun Centre. Later she worked as a social worker with Child and Family Services of Western Manitoba until her long-delayed retirement. A running theme throughout her life was helping others. Susanne has touched many lives for the better. According to her wishes, Susanne will be cremated. There will be a prayer service at the Wall-Custance Funeral Home & Chapel, 206 Norfolk St., Guelph, Ontario on Saturday, June 3, 2017 at 10:00 a.m. Memorial donations can be directed to the Canadian Cancer Society (www.cancer.ca) in lieu of flowers.
