THOMSON: Erla Doreen Thomson (nee Robertson) of Brandon, MB, cherished mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend, died Saturday, June 10, 2017 with her family by her side. Mom was born on August 22, 1941 in Minnedosa, MB to Edythe and Earl. She was the youngest of four children. Moms early life was spent on the family farm in Basswood, MB. She always spoke of a wonderful childhood spent with three older brothers to pester, swimming at the lake, and enjoying school life. Mom moved to Brandon in 1959 to attend Business College. Her first job was at Canadian Motors in 1960 where she met a tall dark handsome co-worker, the love of her life, our dad, Jim Thomson. Shortly thereafter they were married and started a family. Mom chose to be a stay at home mom for several years. When she entered back into the workforce she had various positions as a bookkeeper/secretary before joining her friends at Country Style Donuts where she worked for 19 years. In 1996, mom left the work force to stay home and care for dad. In July of 1997, mom said good bye to her best friend when our dad passed away. Mom filled her time doing what came naturally; giving selflessly to make life better for others. An organization that was near and dear to her heart was Special Olympics. She volunteered as coach, organizer, mentor, and advocate to ensure that all of her athletes were treated with respect and kindness. Anyone who knew mom knew that her whole world revolved around her grandchildren. She spent countless hours at rinks, ball diamonds, school gyms and soccer pitches cheering on her favorite athletes. Nan was their biggest fan. Mom was predeceased by her loving husband Jim; parents Edythe and Earl, and her brothers Orville and Herb. Mom is lovingly remembered and will be forever missed by her sons Garth (Kerri), Daryn, Troy (Marcy), her daughter Dayna (Myles) and her grandchildren Luke, Kolby, Shaye, Alexa, Jesse, Josh and Chloe and her brother Lyle The Celebration of Erla's Life will take place at Memories Chapel, 330-18th Street North on Monday, June 19, 2017 at 1:00 p.m. with Arlene Robertson officiating.
