POLNICK: Edward Charles. March 4, 1928 - July 15, 2017 aka....Pere, Ponnie, Jodge, Dziadzio, Chief, Polish Prince and Cazz. The pillar of the Polnick family passed away peacefully surrounded by his cherished family at the age of 89. We will miss him greatly. Ed was the youngest of three children, the only son of Katarina and Lawrence Polnick, who immigrated to Brandon, MB from Poland. Pere was always immensely proud of being Polish and cherished his heritage. He told many stories of his childhood, his time in the Canadian Navy and being a firefighter. Ed achieved many career accomplishments, especially working his way upthrough the Brandon Fire Dept, becoming Canadas and North Americas youngest Fire Chief at the time. He was a leader and visionary for the Manitoba Fire College. His enriching stories were plentiful, always captivating and often humorous. Ponnie was a confident public speakerand reliable ambassador, a constant source of optimism and advice. His Catholic faith was an important part of his every day life. The Chief will be sorely missed by his wife Rolande, the love of his life for 66 years, his four children and their spouses, ten grandchildren and six great grandchildren with two on the way. Pere was always so proud of his growing family and what he and Mere had created. It was a privilege to know and work with Ed as he touched many hearts. Jodge wasa empathetic firefighter, caring & loving husband and father and an especially proud grandfather and great grandfather. He will be missed, but we will all cherish the memories of this extraordinary soul. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to Nanaimo Regional General Hospital Palliative Care Unit. The Celebration of Life will take place on Friday, July 21, 2017 at 11:00 am at Sands Funeral Chapel, One Newcastle Ave. Nanaimo, BC.
