CARROLL: Iris Mildred loving widow of the late Vern Carroll, passed away quietly in her sleep in her home at Fairview on Tuesday, July 26th at the age of 103. Born in Cypress River, MB to Charles and Mary Diehl, she was the oldest of 6 children. Iris was predeceased by her parents, her sisters Rilda (Stan Carr), Alice (Howard Smythe), Doreen (Earl Noble) and brothers Jim (Eleanor Diehl) and Les Diehl. Also, her grandson Shane Carroll and son-in-law Bev Barkley. Iris was very involved with various community events, a strong supporter and volunteer of Central United Church spending many hours with the U.C.W. and was a member of the choir for over 50 years. Curling was her sport of choice. Iris was a Life Time member of Riverview Curling Club, helped start the Golden Gals and was the first woman to receive the Bill Lumsden Award. She participated in league, and at bonspiels including a bonspiel in Scotland. Iris loved to travel visiting many places in Canada and world-wide. She leaves to mourn her 6 children: Harvey Carroll (Marlene) from B.C., Myrna Barkley from Brandon, Brian Carroll (Karin) from B.C., MaryLyn from Brandon, Charlie (Donna) from B.C. and Lloyd (Sharon) B.C. Grandchildren: Trent Carroll (Jill), Sean Carroll (Danielle), Corina Carroll, Debbie Barkley, Brenda Roth, Matthew Barkley (Cherie), Taylor Carroll, Terra Crabe (Jason), and the late Shane Carroll. Her great-grandchildren: Ashlee Carroll, Jett Carroll, Sophia Carroll, Natalie Carroll, Mitchell Barkley Dittmer, Jessica Roth, Emma Barkley, Hailey Barkley, Ashlee Crabe, Ethan Crabe and Davis Trout. Sister-in-law, Anna Grace Diehl from Boissevain, MB, as well as many nieces, nephews, relatives and many close friends. A celebration of her life will be held at Central United Church, 327–8th St. on Friday, August 18th at 3:00 p.m. Casual dress is fine. The family wishes to thank the 2nd floor staff of Fairview Home for the care they gave her during the past 5 years.
