YATES: Blythe June Yates age 78, passed away peacefully on Friday, July 21, 2017 at the Brandon Hospital. Blythe was the third born child of Harry and Gertrude Cowing born on June 10th, 1939 on a farm near Oak Lake, Manitoba (RM of Woodworth). She began her schooling at Ryerson, then relocated to Brandon in 1952 where she completed her education. In 1957 she met, dated for a couple of years and then married Ted Yates on August 29, 1959. They had two children, Cathy, born on January 2, 1962 and Mike, born on August 3, 1964. Her family expanded from there to seven grandchildren and six great grandchildren. Blythe worked at Anglo Canadian Oil and Economy Textiles. She was also the bookkeeper/secretary for their family business, Yates Auto Service from 1987 to 1999. She then worked for many years at the Manitoba Liquor Commission, the job from which she retired as an Assistant Manager in 1998. She volunteered at the gift shop at the hospital worked at Senior for Seniors and canvassed for various charities. She was a member of Job’s Daughters and the I.O.D.E. Some of her hobbies and enjoyments in life were: time spent with her family, growing her vegetable and flower garden, cabin life both at Minnedosa and Rivers, travelling in the motor home, camping, snowmobiling, seadooing, sewing, knitting, crocheting, quilting, swimming at the YMCA, attending the Thresherman’s Reunion and the winter fairs, playing bingo, slot machines, cards, dice and board games, refinishing furniture and watching tv. She was known for her love, patience, understanding, generosity, kindness, dedication, peacekeeping, and caregiving of her family and all the pets in her life. She loved having a good time and a good laugh. Surrounding herself with family and friends is what she did to obtain her happiness. She is survived by her husband Ted, sister, Trudy Klause from Flin Flon, MB, close cousin Bev Hyson from Victoria, BC, daughter, Cathy Yates from Brandon, MB and grandchildren: Owen, Angie (Daryn Coulthard), Leo and Amy (Derek Danebrock) and great grandchildren: Maximus, Ethan and Brady. Son, Mike Yates (Melony) from Oak Lake, MB and grandchildren: Shelby (Colleen Pitzel), Joey (Michelle Dyck) and Riley and great grandchildren: Marley, AJ and Jennifer. We would like to thank everyone for the cards, telephone calls, visits and food. Your thoughtfulness during this difficult time was very much appreciated.
