SCHROEDER: Albert Schroeder passed away at the Brandon Regional Health Centre on August 16, with his wife of 62 years at his side. Albert was born in the district of Halbstadt near Altona, on September 24, 1929. He went to school at Grimsby School south of Plum Coulee, and worked on the family farm. He was baptized on his confession of faith on May 13, 1951 in the Bergthaler Mennonite Church, Plum Coulee. In 1954 he moved to Winnipeg, where he began his career with Eatons of Canada, working as an electronic technician. He was transferred to Brandon when CKX opened its TV station, and stayed with the company except for a short term with Brawn’s TV. He is survived by his wife, Anna, four children; Andy (Lorrie Eakins), Wilma (Mark Routley), Mark (Eileen Agar), Karl (Janice Beitel) and five grandchildren, also his eldest brother, Henry Schroeder of Richmond, BC. He was predeceased by his parents Henry and Helena Schroeder, sisters Hilda and Esther, and brother Frank. Albert was a founding member of Grace Mennonite Church, and a life-long supporter. After his retirement he worked with the MCC thrift stores, repairing donated electronics equipment for resale. He was also a member of the Commonwealth Air Training Plan Museum. “Helping on the farm” at CB Davis Farms was a great pleasure. A celebration of the life of Albert Schroeder will be held on August 28, at 2:00 pm at Grace Mennonite Church, with reception in the church basement to follow.
