ROOZENDAAL: Gerard (Gerry) Johannes Roozendaal. In the early hours of August 25, 2017, our beloved Father and Grandfather Gerard Roozendaal passed away at the Carberry Personal Care Home in Carberry Manitoba. Born in 1926 in Wervershoof, Holland to Johannes and Catharina, Gerry was the youngest of 6 children.  At the age of 22, Gerry left Holland to attend Seminary School in Washington State.  After 5 years of education and adventure, he returned to Holland, before embarking on a new adventure in Canada.  In the spring of 1961, Gerry graduated from Law School at the University of Manitoba.  In July, he married his sweetheart, Helen Burgess. He began his legal career in Winnipeg with Pollock and Company before venturing out to a small firm in Gladstone.  In 1963 Gerry took over the Law Practice in Carberry, where he and Helen began to set down roots. In 1970 Gerry was sworn in as Family Court Judge.  In 1975 he accepted a position with the Churchill Community Development board in Northern Manitoba.  In 1978 Gerry left his law practice in Churchill and the family returned to Carberry. Gerry went on to work briefly at Fox Memorial Hospital and then Carnation Foods, where he retired in 1993.  Gerry was a gentle soul with a kind heart and joyful sense of humor. Everyone was met with a friendly greeting and, if he couldn’t remember your name, a nickname. His love of music presented itself often in sudden outbursts of unabashed singing, whether leading his church’s congregation in song or joining in while his wife gave music lessons.  Gerry embraced life and met every challenge head on, with a smile and twinkle in his eye. Gerry leaves behind his children Angela, John (Rebecca), and Paul (Nicola) as well as his grandchildren Zach, Mya, Robbie, and Ben.  He is predeceased by his wife Helen (2013) and daughter Monica (1971). Funeral Services will take place Friday, September 15th, 11:00 am at Our Lady of Assumption Catholic Church with a luncheon to follow at the United Church Hall in Carberry.  Flowers are gratefully declined however, in lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Gerry’s name to Our Lady of Assumption Church, Carberry MB or the Carberry Care Home Activities, Box 2000, Carberry MB R0K 0H0.Seasons Funeral Chapel, Oak Bank204-444-5444
