KIRTON: Shirley Kirton, October 4, 1927 September 19, 2017. Entrepreneur, Creator, Explorer, Advisor, Mentor, Enthusiast, Supporter of the Arts, Loving Mother and Grandmother; Shirley Margaret Agnes Scrase Kirton passed away peacefully with her family by her side at the Grace Hospital, September 19th, 2017. She will be dearly missed by her children Marlow Kirton (Marlene) and Kelly Lewis. She was a wonderful grandmother to Paige Lewis (Ian Phillips), Leland Kirton (Samantha) and Taylor Kirton. She is also survived by her devoted sister, Roberta Scrase Sykes. Shirley was born October 4th, 1927 in Dauphin, Manitoba and raised by her parents Herbert and Mabel Scrase. She and her sister fondly remembered joyful times and a carefree childhood, both in Dauphin and at the family cottage on the North Shore of Clear Lake in Riding Mountain National Park. This would eventually lead to a lifetime passion for the Lake. In 1938 her parents established Scrase's Meat Market, Shirley would eventually take over the helm. Her children and grandchildren all participated in the family business. She took great pride in knowing it was to celebrate 80 years of operation by her family in 2018. She contributed her time to the Wasagaming Chamber of Commerce, and the Historical society, also a huge supporter of the kiddies day parade she founded. During the year, her home was in Winnipeg, where she was a significant supporter of the arts; acting on the board for the Winnipeg Symphony Orchestra, chairing several Gala fundraising events. She was a spiritual person and was a founding member of St. Bede's Anglican Church, serving as president of the Women's Association. Splitting her time between Clear Lake, Winnipeg, and winter stays at her home in Florida, Shirley made a multitude of friends. She worshiped her friendships, many of whom had been friends since childhood. The family would like to host a celebration of Shirley's life the summer of 2018 at Clear Lake. Should friends wish to make a memorial donation, the family suggests a donation in honour of her Uncle, Captain Thomas Scrase, who died in the line of duty September 11, 1936. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to The Dauphin & District Community Foundation, Dauphin Fire Department Memorial Fund, Box 6, 100 Main Street South, Dauphin, MB R7N 2T9.Neil Bardal Funeral Centre204-949-2200neilbardalinc.com
