BEREZOWSKI: Frances “Fran”, May 28, 1953 - Brandon, MB; October 21, 2017 - Calgary, AB. Frances Berezowski (nee Medd) known as Fran, died on October, 21 2017 at the age of 64. Fran was born and raised in Brandon, MB. She moved to Alberta as a young woman. After working in the legal profession, Fran returned to school and trained to become an RN in Brandon. She enjoyed a thirty year nursing career caring for patients first at the Holy Cross Hospital and later at the Rocky View Hospital in Calgary. She retired in 2014. Fran married Duane Berezowski in 1992; the two lived on an acreage overlooking the Bow River valley with a magnificent view of the Rocky Mountains near Cochrane. Fran and Duane traveled to Africa and South East Asia; they also explored remote mountain locales such as the Assiniboine Mountains on horseback. When their grandchildren were young, they hosted family reunions in BC the most frequent place being an old favourite, the Fairmont Hot Springs Resort near Invermere. Mostly Fran enjoyed the rural surroundings of their home, where she tended an ever expanding garden of flowers, herbs and vegetables and cared for horses, cats and dogs. Fran was a gentle and caring person and she enjoyed life’s simple pleasures - playing the guitar, sewing, gardening and making preserves. Fran is survived by her husband Duane, her son Jon Medd of Calgary, and her granddaughter Taylor Dickson of Edmonton; as well as her three brothers, Bill (Chris); Jack (Phyllis) and Sam (Wendy) and her nieces and nephews Rob, Laurence, Diana, Brian, Adam and Darcy. She is predeceased by her parents Harold Bertram Medd, born in Brandon, MB and Stella Jean Medd (Beresford), born in Nottingham, England. Also mourning Fran passing are Duane’s children Nan Berezowski (Leonardo Carbone) of Toronto, Jill Berezowski (Michael Hirano) of Vancouver and Michael Berezowski (Vanessa) of Victoria, and their children: Drew, Finn, Jai, Kai and Natalie. A reception will be held at McInnis and Holloway (Cochrane Funeral Home, 369 Railway Street, Cochrane, AB) at 12:30 p.m. on Friday, October 27, 2017. Following the reception, in accordance with her Bahá’í faith, there will be a simple grave side ceremony at the Cochrane Cemetery, in the Alberta foothills that she loved. The family would like to thank Dr. Coulliard for his guidance, and the nurses at the Foothills Hospital ICU for their care, during Fran’s final weeks. They also wish to thank Fran’s dear friend and nursing colleague Ann (Jock) and Duane’s niece Suzette Kemp for their loving support during this difficult time.
