YATES: After a short battle with cancer, Edward William Yates, age 83, passed away peacefully on Friday, September 29, 2017 at the Brandon Assiniboine Centre. Ted was the youngest of the family of Elie and Tressia Yates, born on March 19, 1934 in Killarney, MB. He married Blythe Cowing, the love of his life on August 29, 1959 and are now together again in each other’s arms in heaven. Ted’s working career began in Schreiber, Ontario working for the CPR. Trucking was his passion and “Teddy Bear” was his radio handle. He drove for Unicom Storage - Allied Van Lines, Brandon Transit, Trans X, Arnold Brothers, Western Grocers and Quintaine's. His mechanical ability encouraged him to start the family business, Yates Auto Service from 1987-1999 in Brandon. After he retired, he hauled potatoes during harvest season at Carberry, drove for Auto Parts Central and Kreutzer Metals. It wasn’t the miles per gallon but rather the smiles per gallon that he loved so much. He enjoyed spending time with family and friends, tinkering in his garage, camping, playing cards, dice and computer games. He was known for his generosity and kindness and always willing to lend a hand. He loved to have a good time along with a good laugh. He is survived by daughter Cathy Yates from Brandon, MB and grandchildren Owen, Angie (Daryn Coulthard), Leo and Amy (Derek Danebrock) and great grandchildren Maximus, Ethan and Brady, son Mike Yates (Melony) from Oak Lake, MB and grandchildren Shelby (Colleen Pitzel), Joey (Michelle Dyck) and Riley and great grandchildren Marley, AJ and Jennifer. Thank you to all for your support during our difficult time as well as the staff at the BRHC and Assiniboine Centre.
