PRUDEN: Shirley Eileen Eamer Clarke Pruden, September 14 1938-November 24 2017. Shirley Pruden passed away peacefully, with family at her side at Seniors Village in Courtenay, BC. Shirley was born in Carroll, MB, the only child of Ivy Clara Mae Fowell and Alvin George Eamer. After graduating as valedictorian from her high school, she completed her training as a Registered Nurse at the Winnipeg School of Nursing. For over 30 years, she worked as a surgical nurse at Misericordia General Hospital. On retirement, she and her husband of 33 years, Harry Pruden (who predeceased her in 2015), moved to Comox, BC to assist her cherished mother. Shirley's empathy and passion for helping others was her greatest gift. She volunteered with the Comox Hospice, the Heart and Stroke Foundation, The Evergreen Choristers, The Comox Valley Clown Club and with her nursing alumni. She enjoyed dogs, music, knitting and travel. In 2003, Shirley was baptized and became an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (the “Mormons”) alongside her husband, a Church member of long-standing. Shirley is survived by her son, Michael (Tracey) Clarke, grandchildren Fae and Marin, step-children Karen (Leo) Shirley of Langley BC, Hal Pruden of Ottawa, ON and Glenn (Laurie) Pruden of Hamilton ON. She also had 11 step-grandchildren, 13 step- great-grandchildren, and many extended family members across North America. The funeral service and celebration of Shirley’s life will be held at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Courtenay Chapel, 1901-20th Street, Courtenay BC on Friday, December 15, at 1:00 p.m. Family and close friends are invited to gather at 12:00 noon for a viewing in the Relief Society Room. The family is grateful to the Seniors Village staff for their kind care. Memorial donations in Shirley’s memory can be made to the S.P.C.A. or the Alzheimer Society of Canada.
