PETERS: Barbara Ann Peters (Northam) passed away unexpectedly in Maui, Dec 13, 2017, after a relaxing day with her dear husband and friends. Barb lived an abundant life and all of her 64 years were great ones. She was born June 7, 1953 to Margaret and John Northam of Rapid City MB where she grew up with 5 siblings; Linda (Ken), Gwen, Alex (Kim), Elizabeth (Russell) and Carol (Bob). In 1971, Barb attended Red River Community College for Medical Laboratory Technology. She married Doug Peters in 1974 and they lived in many communities across Canada, where they made life-long friends. To work for Alcan, Doug and Barb moved to Kitimat, BC, then Arvida QC. They moved to Brandon, MB to work with Cando Rail Services then to Pinawa, MB and later to Deep River, ON with Atomic Energy of Canada. In 1998, they moved to St. Thomas, ON to rejoin Cando Rail Services (where Barb and Doug worked together, always a complimentary team.) In 2014, they retired to Vancouver Island and enjoyed living on the golf course at Arbutus Ridge. They have since enjoyed many great travels with their RV and with friends. Barb and Doug had 2 wonderful children; son Jason (Jenny) with beloved grandsons Emerson and Finley, and daughter Jenna (Jim). Barb loved family, curling, golfing, and her friends. Barb is remembered for her kind, calm, and loving presence. Her compassion led her to be generous in her caring for others. She was incredibly smart, curious, and capable. She was active and conscientious with good health. Barb put her loving nature and thoughtfulness in to action. She was never one to rock a ship, but one to gently steer it. We will miss her dearly, but have fond memories of a life well-lived. Memories and condolences can be emailed to Doug at dbpeters@shaw.ca. Flowers are gratefully declined. Memorial donations can be directed to the Rapid City Community Fund of the Brandon Area Community Foundation at bacf.ca in memory of Barb Peters. A service to celebrate Barb’s life will be held in Manitoba in the spring.
