THORPE: Muriel Vivian Thorpe, March 2, 1915 - December 21, 2017. Muriel Vivian Thorpe (nee Lindsay) passed away peacefully at Carberry Personal Care Home on December 21, 2017 with family by her side in her 103rd year. She was born in Foxwarren, Manitoba, and moved to Sudbury, Ontario in 1937 to marry Orman, her husband, who worked there as a miner. The family returned to Foxwarren and purchased a farm. She then stayed in the district farming for 19 years then moved to Carberry in 1961 where she spent many years working in the kitchen of the Carberry hospital. She was known for putting something extra in the food to improve the favour of the meals. She was very active in each community in which she lived, being involved in Lodge work and teaching 4H sewing classes. She was an avid bingo player, enjoyed playing cards with family and friends, curling, and golfing. Mum was especially known for making quilts, many of which are in the homes of family members. She also donated quilts to raffles for community events. Her family was her greatest source of pride and she loved it when everyone was together. She greatly enjoyed her grandchildren and camping trips were always a favorite past time that they all enjoyed. All have very happy memories of camping with grandma. She is survived by her sons Wayne (Heather), children James, Michelle; Ron (Gail), children Debbie, Nicole; and daughter Glenda Reynolds, children Conway, Troy, Holly, Terri; daughter-in-law Karen Thorpe, children Kevin and Kathy; many nieces, nephews, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by Orman, her husband of 50 years, son Darwin, brother Robert (Marion), sister Edna (Garnet Clement), and son-in-law Harry Reynolds. If family and friends so desire they may make a donation to a charity of their choice. Cremation has taken place and a celebration of life will be held at Carberry at a later date this summer. Arrangements by Whites Funeral Home, Carberry, Manitoba, 204-834-2629.
