KAMULA: Shirley passed away on January 29, 2018 in St. Boniface Hospital after a brief illness. Shirley was born on August 7, 1937 in her grandmother Pettapiece’s home, on the family homestead, to James and Evelyn Stratford. The family moved to Rivers in 1944 and it was here that Shirley made her home for the remainder of her life. On December 29, 1973, Shirley married Nick Kamula and together they shared forty-two happy years, filling their home and lives with family, friends and experiences. Their door was always open and their coffee pot always on. The community of Rivers was an important part of Shirley’s life, where she actively volunteered her time at the Rivers United Church, the Royal Canadian Legion Ladies Auxiliary Branch 75 and for other community events. For the last number of years she served as Ladies Auxiliary District 2 Commander. Shirley was predeceased by her parents, Jim and Ev Stratford, husband Nick, sister Gwen, brother Larry, brother-in-law Morley and daughter-in-law Sherry. Shirley is survived by her sister Marie; three sons: Bill (Jeanne), Bob (Pam) and Don; grandchildren Jamie (Dan), Roxanne (Sean), Michelle (Tom), Nick and Petra; great grandchildren Declan and Archer; nieces Debbie (Jerry), Barb (Ian), Sherrie (Dave); Jamie (Heather) and Sean (Sandy) great nieces and nephews Ashley (Bryce), Brayden (Crystal), Taryn and Camryn. Thank you to all of you who visited Shirley during her hospital stay and for the flowers, cards and messages that she received. A sincere thank you also to Shirley’s friends in Virden for the lovely quilt they brought to her; it provided warmth and comfort to her in her final days. To the caregivers of St. Boniface Hospital, the family thanks you for your care and compassion.
