MANNS: James Lawrence of Brandon, MB, entered into rest at Rideau Park Personal Care Home on March 5, 2018, at the age of 72. Jimmy was born on February 14, 1946, near Firdale, MB and in 1950 the family moved to Carberry. He is survived by sisters and brother-in-law Marjorie Hay, Muriel and Les Watts, sister-in-law Barbara Manns, nieces and nephews and their families, Aunt Thelma Waterhouse and many cousins. He was predeceased by his mother and father, Irene and James Manns, brothers Ronald, David and brother-in-law Kenneth Hay. Jim attended school in Carberry where he participated in 4-H Beef Club, skating and curling activities. He worked on the farm with his Dad and those memories were so important to him in later years. Jimmy’s health and life were compromised by Epilepsy early in his teen years. It shaped and restricted his life’s efforts as there was no warning when a seizure might happen. Jimmy moved to Brandon to access more health care resources. He met and made many friends and supporters over the years he was there. He graduated from a life skills program at 440 House which helped him develop his limited independence. His years in Brandon included residence at River Heights Terrace, Victoria Landing, Fairview Personal Care Home and Rideau Park Personal Care Home where he made many friends. Jimmy spent many hours listening to music, his tapes and the Wheat Kings hockey games on his radio. He hooked beautiful rugs, which he gave away to his family, friends and Support Workers. A Caring Companions worker visited Jimmy twice a week to play cards, Crib and Uno, visit and give him extra companionship and support over the past years. The time they spent with Jimmy was so valuable to him and his family. His smile and quiet sense of humor will always be remembered by all. Jimmy loved his family and always wanted to know what they were doing. We were always amazed by his will to live through many days of illness and tough situations. This was especially shown during the past month where his strength continued until he passed away on March 5th. A service of remembrance was held March 13, 2018, at the Carberry United Church with Gloria Mott presiding over the service. Interment was in Carberry Plains Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, friends may make a donation to the Epilepsy and Seizure Association of Manitoba, 4-1805 Main Street, Winnipeg, MB, R2V 2A2. White’s Funeral Home, Carberry, MB, were in care of the arrangements, 204-834-2629.
