HAWKINS: It is with deep sadness our family announces the passing of our dad, grandpa, and great grandpa, Donald (Don) Hawkins. Don passed away suddenly at his home, March 30, 2018 at the age of 82. He was born in Hamiota, MB on January 20, 1936, the youngest of four children born to John and Mary-Lizzie Hawkins. Don grew up on the family farm near Lavinia, MB where he enjoyed working alongside his dad and brothers. He enjoyed the country life and the companionship of his faithful pets as well as playing hockey on the Decker team with all of his friends. Don married Eleanor Rollins of Rapid City on October 24, 1959. Don and Eleanor enjoyed many years together on their farm in the Lavinia area, where they raised their four children. The family went on many camping trips and spent summers at their cabin at Burlington Beach. Don and Eleanor moved to Hamiota in 1990 and spent almost 6 wonderful years there before Eleanor’s passing. Don liked when friends and family dropped in and always reminisced about the dances and trips he enjoyed going to and on with friends. He treasured all the birthdays and holidays he spent with his children and grandchildren and loved taking them to hotels to celebrate together. Don was a kind, friendly, quick-witted person who was always willing to lend an ear. He was predeceased by his loving wife Eleanor, his parents and his brother Frank. He will be lovingly remembered by his daughter Debbie (Richard) Dereniwski, sons Rick (Gaylene Mushamanski), Doug (Karma), David (Nadine Lauer), 15 grandchildren, 4 great grandchildren, sister Dorothy Sheridan, brother Ken, special friend Joyce McWhirter and many nieces and nephews. A Celebration of Life was held on April 7, 2018 at the Hamiota United Church followed by a time of fellowship at the Hamiota Community Center.
