WILSON: G Grant. Grant was born on November 2, 1938 to parents Charlie and Jean Wilson. He was raised on the farm north of Lenore, Manitoba along with younger sisters Eleanor and Dianne. He and Carol (Hutchison) were married in Lenore on July 3, 1965 and together purchased their own farm where they raised their family, daughter Julie and son Kevin. Being born into life on the farm, Grant was a farmer and cattleman his entire life. It was as a teenager and a member of the Lenore 4H Club that he purchased his first Aberdeen Angus steer. This led to a lifetime love and commitment to the breed and he spent the next 50 years growing his herd. Grant’s desire to promote the breed and encourage new breeders led him to spend many years serving on the boards of both the Manitoba and Canadian Angus Associations including terms as president of both organizations. Grant always had a desire to serve his community. He served on numerous boards and organizations including the Hamiota Hospital Board, Lenore Community Club, Lenore Curling Club, Kenton Co-op, Virden Lions Club and several others. Grant was active in the Lenore Presbyterian Church. Two of Grant’s favourite pastimes were curling and baseball. He curled recreationally and competitively in leagues in Lenore, Virden and Brandon and travelled to bonspiels and playdowns with a variety of rinks. He played baseball as a boy and teen and as an adult coached both Kevin’s minor baseball teams as well as the Lenore Aces men’s fastball team. Grant will be remembered for his friendly nature, sense of humour and commitment to his family, friends and community. Grant passed away March 4, 2018 at the Westman Nursing Home in Virden, Manitoba. He is lovingly remembered by wife Carol, daughter Julie (Dallas) Clarke, son Kevin (Faralee) and grandchildren Tyler and Ashlyn Clarke and Emily and Andi Wilson. He is also survived by sisters Eleanor (Bill) Conconi and Dianne (Jim) Gibson, sister-in-law Georgina (Wilf) Brown and brother-in-law Gordon (Glenda) Hutchison along with numerous nieces and nephews. A service of praise and thanksgiving for Grant’s life was held March 13, 2018 at St. Paul’s United Church in Virden, MB.“That man is a success who has lived well, laughed often and loved much; who has gained the respect of people and the love of children; who has filled his niche and accomplished his task; who leaves the world better than he found it.”Robert Louis Stevenson
