NASH: Joan Nash (nee Chapman). It is with deep sadness that the family announces the passing of our wife, mother and nana, Joan Nash of Carberry on April 23rd, 2018 at the Carberry District Health Centre at the age of 68. Joan was the youngest of 5 children born in Arcola, Saskatchewan on July 5th, 1949; her family moved to Reston, Manitoba when Joan was 3 years old. Joan met Bob in Carberry in the summer of 1966 and she started work at the potato plant on February 14th, 1967. Joan and Bob courted for a year getting engaged in December of 1967 and married July 13th, 1968 in St. Agnes Anglican Church in Carberry. The bought a little house in town where they lived for 5 years purchasing land east of Carberry and moving a new home on that acreage. The family still calls this home today. In October of 1974 their first child Sheila was born. At this time, Joan quit her job at the factory so that she could stay home full time and do what she loved doing, being a mom. In 1980 their second daughter Sherry was born making their family complete. As the girls got older, Joan could be found following her girls in whatever activity they were included in and eventually took on the role of Brown Owl with the Girl Guides of Canada. Joan also took on teaching cooking in 4H and sold Avon on the side. Both Joan and Bob always welcomed friends into their home and made them feel like it was their home too. Joan claimed to have adopted several of their daughters friends and loved them all. A lot still call Joan their Momma Nash or Mamma Joan to this day. She could always make everyone giggle and act silly with them, but when it was time to settle down, you knew she meant business. Joan always made herself available to her daughters whenever they needed her, regardless of their age. She was always their number one fan and could usually be caught bragging to anyone who would listen about any and all of their accomplishments. She would always tell her girls that if she could not physically be with us to remember that she would be a little bird on their shoulder cheering them on. As proud as Joan was of her two girls, her love exploded for each and everyone of her 7 grandchildren. She loved being their Nana and proudly displayed their pictures and artwork for all who came to visit and always made time to listen to each of her grandchildrens stories. Being a Mom and Nana was her greatest joy in life. Joan loved living in the country watching the birds and all other wildlife. Joan and Bob always has a great garden and lots of flowers in the yard. In the fall she could be found making the best dill pickles and pickled beets around. She spoiled her family with her delicious baking and countless loaves of homemade bread. Joan was also known for her potato salad that was always asked for at potluck suppers and barbecues. Joan and Bob always enjoyed taking their girls on summer vacations. Some of these vacations included the West Coast, Niagara Falls, northern Manitoba and several of the northern states including Mt. Rushmore. This love of travel didnt stop after the girls moved away. Bob took Joan on snowbird trips to Arizona as well as Joans trip of a lifetime to Graceland. Joan enjoyed spending time with her family and enjoyed life and laughter. The last two years however were very difficult for her after being diagnosed with lung cancer and having a lobectomy. What we all believed would be a start to better health led to Joan being in a constant battle to breathe. She never complained however, staying positive until the end. As her health declined her love for her family grew stronger. Joan and Bob were the love of each others lives and were just about to celebrate 50 years of marriage. Not one decision was made between the two of them without consulting with each other first. Unfortunately respiratory failure took her from us. Joan waited until all her family were by her bedside when she took her last breath and took her families away as well. Joan was predeceased by her parents Jack and Edna Chapman as well as her brothers Joe and Tom. She is also predeceased by her former son-in-law Chris Eilers. Joan will be dearly missed by her loving husband Bob as well as her daughter Sheila (Don) Mitchell and their children Grady (Terra) Travis and Bryson Eilers of Portage la Prairie as well as Sherry (Joe) Unrau and their children Ashley, Hailey, Ryan and Kelsey of Niverville, brother George (Donna) Chapman of Grenfell, Saskatchewan as well as many nieces, nephews and friends. A celebration of life was held on April 27th, 2018 at St. Agnes Anglican Church in Carberry with her final resting place being in Carberry Cemetery. Carscadden Funeral Home of Virden was in care of arrangements. The family wishes to thank the pallbearers; nephews, Don Nash, Dean Nash, Rick Nash, Arnie Chapman, grandson Grady Eilers and neighbor Don Dickson. Also the ushers Glenn Creasey and Howard Horn, as well as Father Chris for the service. Special thanks to Dr. Ward for her love and compassion for Joan over the years, as well as the nursing staff during her short stay. If so desired, donations can be made in Joans name to the Manitoba Lung Association.Breathe easy Mom and stay on our shoulders, weve got this from here.
