SCOTT: Lorraine “Lori “Scott. Lori died June 23rd, 2018 at Assiniboine Centre after a two year battle with cancer. In addition she suffered from Parkinson’s Disease. She was born July 28th, 1942 in Bracebridge, Ontario to Gilbert “Gib” and Winnifred “Win” Bell. Win was a Brandon Girl who met Gib while he was training at Shilo. They lived in Hamilton, Ontario until 1947 when they moved to Brandon residing at 2218 McTavish Avenue during Lori’s formative years. She attended Fleming, Earl Oxford, Brandon Composite H.S. (Neelin) and St. Michaels Academy, graduating in 1960. Lori then completed a bookkeeping course and was employed by Brandon Packers. While at Comp. High Lori met David “Dave” Scott and they began dating in 1957 and were married June 10th, 1961 in Brandon. On June 10th of this year Lori and Dave celebrated their 57th Wedding Anniversary at Assiniboine Centre. Due to Dave’s work they moved several times living in Winnipeg, Selkirk, Saskatoon, Edmonton, Calgary, Peterborough and Estevan. In 1983 they moved to Carberry residing there 35 years until 2017 when Lori’s health required her to be closer to her doctors and the Cancer Care Clinic. Throughout those 57 years Lori raised 3 children, Susan born 1962, Greig born 1964 and Jeff born 1970. As Dave travelled extensively for work Lori really did the Lion’s share of parenting always making sure the kids got to hockey, baseball and figure skating as well as nurturing them until they left home. In addition to being a loving, competent mother she also made time her herself by working to buy the extras for the family. While in Peterborough she was a top performing Tupperware dealer. Lori also became very involved in the Ontario Home and School Assn., teaching remedial students on a volunteer basis. Upon leaving Peterborough to return to the west Lori was given a letter of commendation from the Peterborough Rural School Board. Upon moving to Estevan she worked for the local radio station selling, writing and broadcasting advertising. Lori was successful in developing programs for North Dakota merchants who advertised on CJSl Estevan for the first time. Upon moving to Carberry where she and Dave purchased a Chimo Lumber business, Lori did the business accounting. Seeking her own career she applied for and was hired as the Activity Director for the Personal Care Home. Until Lori was hired programs for the residents mainly consisted of crafts. She greatly expanded the curriculum to allow the individual residents to do projects that matched their abilities. In 1985 ACC ran a 2 year Gerontology course designed for Activity Directors which Lori completed with honors. She then applied for and received grants for Carberry’s first handivan. She noted that other communities had been successful with a Service for Seniors program so she put all the parts together and established the program for Carberry. For her efforts she was nominated for and received an Air Canada Heart of Gold Award for excellence in community service. After 13 years in health care Lori embarked on a new career as first secretary then in charge of GIC products at Don Forbes Investments. She also served on the board of the Carberry and Area Foundation. For personal satisfaction she acted in and directed productions for 13 years with the Exit Stage Left theatre group. Upon retiring in 2005 Lori and Dave travelled N.A., Europe and China. While wintering in Florida Lori fed her creative needs by painting in water colours which she continued until Parkinson’s interfered. Lori is survived by husband David, daughter Susan Scott and partner Bruce Wagner, Greig and wife Kelly Scott, son Jeff Scott and wife Jennifer Nicholson, grandchildren MacKenzie and Sydney Scott Clark and Ben and Elanor Scott, brother Gib and wife Lyn Bell and sister Sherrie and husband Terry Garvin. Donations in lieu of flowers to Brandon Regional Health Centre, Palliative Care Foundation.
